About
Inspired by norse mythology, 3 ravens tells the story of an unlikely trio: hugin, munin & jack. Hugin and munin were ravens loyal to the god odin who were sent on a quest to find the secret to human happiness. Jack, the third raven was sent by loki to rattle ’em with riddles. The three ravens forming to combine sight, knowledge and creativity to concoct a magic potion is much like our own story: a group of friends—banding together in their thornbury basement—to create unique australian beers.

Can. Murky brown with a head that's completely gone in a minute. There's some moody sour funk underneath, but mostly it smells like a mixture of post mix Coke and good ginger beer. Given that, it's surprising that it's not all that sweet. But the sourness just kind of runs into the sweetness rather than complements it. The flavours are OK - perhaps not my sort of thing - but the balance is self-defeating.

From a 330ml bottle on 20/2/2018. Pours a slightly cloudy golden with almost no head. The nose is a bit odd - a combo of citrus fruit and minerals, with a hint of honey. It's a bit odd flavour wise too. A dash of bready malt followed by a fairly strong citrus sweet/sour, with orange, lime and lemon. But the sweetness well and truly prevails and is a bit cloying - almost reminds me of cordial. Notwithstanding the claim on the label, it doesn't taste very hoppy and the 10% is a bit of surprise. Most average standard IPAs would deliver more hop punch than this. The texture is a bit syrupy and the carbonation soft. All up, pretty disappointing. It lacks cohesion and balance, and is probably one of the weakest Aussie DIPAs I've sampled.

Pours hazy orange with a small head.Nose shows passion fruit, lychee, peach, apricot and nectarine along with piny and resinous hops notes.Flavours include melon, mango and peach along with spicy, resinous, piny and grassy hops. Not too much malt, a reasonably assertive bitterness rolls through in the finish.

Can at Slow Beer, Fitzroy, Melbourne. Poured a hazy straw colour with little life. The aroma is grainy malt, light citrus. The flavour is light sour with a light watery light dough biscuit malt palate. Light bodied with flat carbonation. Nice can.

Bottle. Can't quite read the day, but bottled this month. Translucent gold with a modest white head. 3 Aroma of grapefruit, lime, passionfruit. Pretty light bodied for 10%. Carbonation is low. Intense citrus punch, some tropical notes underneath then after a while there's a very little gentle bread (surely the malt should have a speaking part in a 10% ABV beer). Barely any sweetness. Not all that much bitterness. Alcohol is just on the cusp of overt. Very tasty indeed.

I was expecting a New England IPA based on the name, but I'm not sure they've really stuck to the script. There's an aroma of orange peel, lemon, grain, biscuits and a little dirty socks. The orange is prominent in the mouth, and there's a very dry, old fashioned bittering hops aftertaste. It's well put together, but in my opinion it's closer to a light orange sour than it is to a juicy New England IPA.
