Description
Inspired by norse mythology, 3 ravens tells the story of an unlikely trio: hugin, munin & jack. Hugin and munin were ravens loyal to the god odin who were sent on a quest to find the secret to human happiness. Jack, the third raven was sent by loki to rattle ’em with riddles. The three ravens forming to combine sight, knowledge and creativity to concoct a magic potion is much like our own story: a group of friends—banding together in their thornbury basement—to create unique australian beers.

Bottle.Hazy gold with a white head. Aroma of winery orange juice, lime, underripe tropical fruit, rockmelon. 7+ Creamy texture. Very juicy with loads of fruit and some bread. Moderate bitterness - or maybe its tempered a little by the less than clean texture. A little alcohol and menthol at the end. I thought this either needed to be a little more refined or rather more rambunctious. But it’s pretty good. [3.5] A second, colder c 8C bottle a week later I liked a little better as the bitterness stands out a little more.

Bottle. Black with a deep tan head that fades to a fat coat. Roasty aroma of mocha - mainly nice dark chocolate, molasses. Full bodies, lowish carbonation. Luscious chocolate and toffee, coffee, bitterness is high enough to counter the sweetness nicely. Tasty. Maybe lacks a little depth.

Bottle. Murky amber with a coat of light beige head. Floral and earthy aroma with chocolate, pepper. The chocolate pops in and out of prominence, perhaps because it’s in an unusual context. Bready and slightly sweet with spicy rye notes accentuating the dry and quite bitter finish. The chocolate again comes and goes. Nice with lots of "wait... what?" moments.

From a 330ml bottle on 25/9/2015. Pours a cloudy amber with almost no head. The nose is a touch muted with some caramel and toffee, sweet fruit and bubblegum in the mix. The flavour is much bigger with lots of sweet banana, plum, and date, along big dollops of toffee, with some spice, oak and more bubblegum. There’s a touch of sharp vinous booze at the back, but its very dessert like, with more that a hint of muscat to it. The texture is syrupy and the carbonation average. Not overly complex and could be a bit better balanced, but a more than decent big sipper.
