About
Inspired by norse mythology, 3 ravens tells the story of an unlikely trio: hugin, munin & jack. Hugin and munin were ravens loyal to the god odin who were sent on a quest to find the secret to human happiness. Jack, the third raven was sent by loki to rattle ’em with riddles. The three ravens forming to combine sight, knowledge and creativity to concoct a magic potion is much like our own story: a group of friends—banding together in their thornbury basement—to create unique australian beers.

Pours black with a large head.Nose shows a mix of hops and some darker malt. Roasty barley, chocolate, piny hops and resinous notes. Good stuff.Flavours are quite focused on the malt, with burnt coffee and charcoal notes alongside some piny, resinous hops.Carbonation is perhaps a little high.

Pours a murky golden with pretty much no head. Not a lot to the aroma - just a hint of clove and spices. The flavour is sweet and a touch spicy with the barest hint of banana. Has a thinnish body and moderate carbonation. I’ve been drinking a fair bit of Hoegaarden of late (its often really good value by the case) which sets the standard for a quality wit. This, by comparison, is very disappointing stuff. Dull and unpolished, it has an amateur home brew quality about it.

Pours black with a large, light head.Nose shows soft light roast, cocoa, choc-nut pralines, soft woody oak and oatmeal. Nice!Less impressive flavours, some light roast and charred oak. Not much sign of the amarillo and citrus peel.Body feels a little watery.

Draft at Hashigo Zake. Completely black color, beige head with good retention and solid lacing. Aroma of bright pine needles dipped in coffee. Taste is light pine and cocoa. Very nice.

Bottle, started at 10C which was too cold for me. Very dark brown with a beige head that fades to a coat but hangs on from there and coats the glass. Aroma of toasted wood, rye bread. Light bodied, very alive feeling. Eschews intensity of flavour for intrigue. Barely sweet with lots of spicy slightly charred woody notes at the end. Chocolate, toasty, some appleish zing and pinot noir-like berries. Very interesting beer. Don’t quite know what to make of it.

Bottle. Black with an inch of light tan head that lasts well. Aroma of grapefruit, pine, cold coffee, licorice. Quite dry tasting with mocha and not much else besides bright hops. Pleasant with a nice fresh whack of hops, but a bit empty in the middle.
