On tap at the brewpub in Zagreb, July 2008. Hazy orange-brown with a medium white head. Typical hefeweizen aroma with wheat, fruits (particularly banana). Easy to drink with some sourness in the taste. Also some spices, banana and malt. Sweet finish.

27/10 0.5 l draught. Has deep brown body with moderate creamy brownish head. Strong sourish aroma, I already get used to in those two Zagreb brewpubs. some hops definitely here, too. Flavor is quite alcoholic, with lot of caramel, a bit bitter, also sweet. Finish is quite good, where alcohol is also felt through the sweet caramel. Very good beer, surely the best from Medvedgrad.

27/10 0.5 l draught with and after pizza. A bit murky reddish brown body with medium bigger ebony head. Aroma again is dominated by unpasteurized sourness, some hops, too. Flavor quite mild, hoppy, pleasantly bitter and sweet a bit. Very easily drinkable. Finish is short, follows the flavor, not bad. Something between Zlatni Medvjed and Crna Kraljica, but I really doubt it is half of each mixed. Not really much of schwartz character inside. Good one.

27/10 0.3 l draught (sweet little weizen glass) Had murky orange brownish body with moderate creamy head. Typical wheat nose, banana, fruity, some malts, too. Flavor is not bad, but nothing special, watery, a bit sourish, yeap with clove. Finish is medium short, sourish and watery. I like Weizens, so was not bad, but this definitely could be much better.

27/10 0.3 l draught. Had dark brown body with medium creamy, slowly diminishing brown head. Roasted malts in aroma, quite strong sourness. Maybe also from some kind of hops... Flavor is sour, a bit bitter, coffee. Finish long and pretty sour. Lacked sweetness expected for the style, but still quite good. I will try it again next time in Zagreb if this was in bad condition.

Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7

27/10 0.3 l draught. Poured not completely clear golden body with medium creamy head. Aroma is of apple sourness, coming from unpasteurized beer. Some fruit sweetness here, too. Very light bodied, without any special prominent flavors, it goes down fast as you want. Moderate carbonation, with finish being quite short reflecting the flavor. Pretty nice homemade brew.

Sampled draught at new Medvedgrad together with Doggythedog, fifth and truly the best beer from Pivnica Medvedgrad, amber coloured, little creamy head, caramel aroma with pleasant hop character, definitely good Vienna...

The new beer available after the reopening of Pivnica Medvedgrad. Drank this together with ozujsko and we couldn’t really agree on the style. I went with Märzen, but it might be a hoppy Vienna or a weaker Bock (the name (Extra Strong) has nothing to do with alcohol). I’ll be open to suggestions. It poured a deep red colour with a small creamy tanish head. The nose was typical Medvedgrad, only a bit more dusty and with hints of molasses. Nice round caramelly taste supported by a strong and pleasant bitter hopiness, that made the aftertaste too. A very good beer. Let’s hope it keeps that quality.

Yes, this is definitely a mix of Crna Kraljica and Zlatni Medvjed. I loved the other "bear", but this wasn’t close. It looked good though, brown, thick persistant head that left tons of lacing (a legacy from the "queen" I guess), fizzy. It tasted exactly like one would expect it to taste. The "parent" beers are great in their own ways, but this isn’t as good. Faint hoppy aroma (Medvjed), hoppy taste (Medvjed), with some malty/liquorice hints (Kraljica), slightly bitter aftertaste (toned down version of the Zlatni Medvjed aftertaste). It’s well rounded, but, as I already said...twice, it’s not as good as the others.
