Was expecting a stout and got a sour. This is infected. Not good.

Can from Ryan and Casey Liquors. Cloudy dark yellow, tons of sparkle, decent head with good retention and trace lacing. Aroma is citrus and pine. Taste is strong, sweet citrus, hints of tropical fruits, over pine and crackery back half. Smooth texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Was expecting more out of this. Old can so hops degraded? Pretty tastes more like a pretty conventional DIPA and too malty.

Undated can from tfontana, drunk 6/8/25. Thanks, Tom!
Mildly hazy, glowing-lemon-tangerine-golden. Full, lemon-tinted, white head.
Very lemony and floral with tangerine skin and maybe a touch of mango and wood/pine. Biscuit/cracker and a pinch of white bread from the malt. Clean and with no excess sugar, resin or alcohol noted.
Sweet, almost cakey, even. Lemon and bits of wood/pine from the hops immediately begin to give way to the malt and yeast almost before the beer even starts. Heavy yeast on the finish with a bit of over-boiled Citra character dominating. Doesn't really end too sweet. Just big and bulky and with very little sense of dryness, brightness, snappiness, etc...Mega-low bitterness. But clean, at least.

Can from Northfield IGA. Cloudy, murky brown with fizzy, ephemeral head, tons of sparkle, a dozen or so large globs of yeast being thrown into suspension by the carbonation, no lace. Aroma is strong roasted malt, dark chocolate, hint of coffee, background earthy tartness. Taste is strong tart fruit, late mild roast and chocolate very late hint of coffee. Smooth, frothy texture, tartness that zings the lips, tongue and front of mouth, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Wow, what went wrong here? Aroma is pretty damn good but that's it. Was this left out in 80-degree weather? Did the yeast go crazy in the can? I have a saying--"it's hard to fuck up a stout"--this is one of the rare exceptions that proves the rule. Train wreck.

16 oz can in a trade with tfontana. Aroma is soft orange, and some mild mango. The fruit follows into the flavor with the addition of mild herb, and maybe a little bit of malt. Mouthfeel is light and shows a very soft bitterness. Pretty well constructed.

16 oz can from the brewery. Thanks Tom. Deep brown in color. Flavor is mild chocolate, a little bit of roast and a mild lingering sourness in the finish. A tartness that doesn’t belong in the style. A little tweaking to the recipe and this will be fine
