12 fl oz can from Total Wine & More, Clearwater. Sampled on January 23, 2014.Clear dark red to black color, tan head. Sweet, malty, grainy scent. Sweet, malty, grainy taste. Malty aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel, medium bitterness.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear gold with medium frothy white head that leaves sticky lacing. The aroma is a faint fruity malt and honey. Light mouthfeel with sweet honey malt and light bitterness.

Spec’s, Houston 50cl: Pours golden with a white head. Aroma is mostly BBQ, smoky malts, and some meat. Taste is pretty much the same. This is a simple, perhaps even one-dimensional rauchbier, but I think it is very well put together for what it is.

D & Q Beer Mart, Houston 4-pack: Pours black with a light brown head that sticks around. Aroma is dark chocolate with an ample amount of roast and some dark coffee. Body is light considering that this beer is 8.25% abv. Nice roasty bitterness all in the taste. Light sweetness. Some nuttiness. Overall quite tasty

Rich deep dark brown body with a nice one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of coffee, rich chocolate, light earthy spices and a bit of nuts - especially pecans. Medium-bodied; Strong rich earthy malts with a lot of depth and a ton of nut flavours. Aftertaste shows a good depth with cacao, rich coffee, earthy malt and a good nutty finish, all with some smooth pit fruit finishes. Overall, a nice and robust stout with some good earthiness and a smooth malty finish, all with some solid sweetness and bitterness from coffee and chocolate. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Total Wine in Palm Beach Gardens on 30-December-2013 for US$2.29 sampled in my hotel room here in Clearwater, Florida on 03-January-2014.

Slightly hazy golden coloured body with a nice frothy two centimetre tall white head. Aroma of pale malt, light alcohol, the slightest bit of sugars and a very mild, low alpha acid hop scent. Light-bodied; Strong malt flavour with a bit of caramel and sweetness coming through and only a mild hop bitterness and a mellow wheat taste. Aftertaste shows a pungent malt flavour and a very light finish with some light fruit and sugars and no bitterness at all. Overall, a nice lighter styled beer with a decent profile, but no real complexity or depth. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Corner Store (Bait & Tackle) in West Palm Beach, Florida on 30-December-2013 sampled in my hotel room on New Years Day, 01-January-2014.

Aroma: The nose is pretty dull, with some grains, fruit, and a little malt
Appearance: Pours a reddish-orange color with a lasting, creamy beige head and plenty of lace
Flavor: The taste is much the same, dull and grainy, a bit of sweetness, minimally bitter
Palate: The mouthfeel is soft and creamy, it has a smooth feel, and a decent finish
Overall Impression: This one is not particularly impressive. At least it is a nice looking beer, and it has a decent feel too, but that is pretty much where the compliments end from me.

Got in a trade with cyde. 12 ounce can into pint glass; no canning date, but is a recent release. Pours hazy/cloudy deep orange copper color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of orange peel, lemon zest, pear, apple, caramel, rye, biscuit, floral, grass, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Decent aromas with pleasant balance of hop, malt, and yeast ester notes; with poor strength. Taste of orange peel, lemon zest, pear, apple, floral, grass, caramel, toast, rye, biscuit, honey, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, light fruits, caramel, toast, rye, biscuit, honey, and herbal earthiness on the finish for a bit. Nice and pleasant flavor balance of malt, hop, and yeast ester flavors; with good robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and smooth mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a solid rye beer. Good balance and robustness of flavors; and very smooth to drink. Really not a whole lot going on with this one, but fairly enjoyable for what it is.

On tap at Yard House Houston. A dense, finger thick beige head sits on top of a dark brown to black body. Nice curtains. The aroma is pretty roasted, with nuts, spent coffee grit and hints of bonfire. Hot tarmac too actually. It’s pretty dry on the palate, with a pleasant carbonation level. Lots of roasted malts in the flavor. Coffee, bonfire notes and some dark chocolate too. Pleasant bitterness towards the finish. A beer that I could repeat, no doubt, even though I find it a bit one dimensional. 131111

Pours clear dark copper color with light tan head. Bready and nutty aroma with some caramel and earthiness. Toasted malt and.caramel flavors with some nutty and earthy notes. Medium body with moderate carbonation.
