Description
Welcome to West Avenue Cider. Where authenticity and tradition meet big city lights. Our cider has been awarded Best Cider in Ontario for several years running, and we hope you’ll have the chance to find out why. As small-batch producers of hard cider we care about the quality of the fruit that goes into our cider—and we always will. We only use the best ingredients, coupled with a slow fermentation process, so every batch of our cider is characteristic of the orchard’s terroir. Because heritage apples are rare in Canada, we planted thousands of trees in our Orchard to ensure that our Heritage Ciders remain authentic forever.

Tasting at Ryan's, corked bottle
Hazy golden color. Aroma of brandy (Calvados comes to mind). Sweet, balanced acidity, apple juice flavour, lacking a bit in depth, with notes of brandy; light astringency, some apple skins in the finish.
Not very complex, but good nevertheless.

Poured from 375mL bottle. Amber orange with tiny ring of white head. Light brandy barrel, sweet apple, treacle. Quite nice, but overpriced.

375ml (thx, !) @ Ryan's. Appearance: hazy golden with no head. Aroma: nice sweet and sour baked apples. Taste: nice body, apple skins, some slight barrel notes, some booziness. Overall: good one.

Vintage 215. 375mL bottle, pours a clear amber with a tiny ring of white head. Aroma is full of cognac barrels upfront, treacle toffee, and stewed apples. Flavour is sweet and sticky, with cognac barrels, stewed apples, sticky caramel, treacle toffee, and alcohol. Stewed apples, sweet, sticky and boozy. Maybe not one of the best ice ciders compared to the top Quebec ones, but it's pretty sublime. Excellent.

750ml (thx, Matt!) @ Ryan's. Appearance: pale golden with a weak white head. Aroma: smells like a white wine with funk and some cider notes. Taste: super bubbly, this is just sparkling white wine. Overall: super weird.

Poured from 750mL bottle. Clear pale gold with dissipating white head. Chardonnay dominant with apple skin and a bit of carbonation. Quite nice.

750mL bottle, pours a clear pale golden with a large white head. Aroma brings out lots of Chardonnay, crisp apple skins, and some funkiness — that Chardonnay really dominates. Flavour is dominated by the Chardonnay upfront, with crisp skins, alcohol, and some funk. Love that Chardonnay precedence. The carbonation is high but totally fitting. Lovely.

Bottle at Phill
Dark red colour, clean. Definitively apples/cider in the aroma. Off-dry, it has good cider and fresh grape character, with light funk.
Nice.

Corked bottle at Phill, vintage 2015, 5+ years old
Very dark amber, almost mahogany. Aroma of wood, wine, Madeira, dark sugar. It's moderately sweet, a bit too bozy, there's some brown sugar, caramel, stewed apples; there is a respectable degree of complexity, but not the richness comparable to the best Ice Ciders.

375ml on Phill's deck. Appearance: dark copper with no head. Aroma: intense sweet apples, some booze. Taste: lots of barrel, moderately sweet, mellowed. Overall: I don't think that they should be barrel aging it.
