Description
The brewery is located in the picturesque village of Kötschach-Mauthen, Gailtal, Carinthia and derives its name from the old celtic name of Mauthen. Wonderful freshly brewed beer is celebrated here, with its own source, the best raw materials and a lot of love for the product. The brewhouse is modern and state of the art, the beer is traditionally fermented in the open fermentation tank. We are Gailtal's first brewery and have continued the craft that was practiced in Mauthen in 1700. Since opening in 2007, the brewery has been continuously expanded and the range expanded. Far from the mass products of the corporations, artisanal beer is produced here.

Bottle. Aroma yeasty, basementy, slightly rotten fruits. Very dark colour. Taste is assertively roasty, dark malt flavours, light dried fruits, prunes. Could use more body as a sweet stput. Quite good after all.

bottle at home bought at Ammersin. BB 11.07.2015. light orange, very cloudy color. small off-white head. light smoke aroma of bacon and malt, light milky smell, light grainy smell, also light buttery smell, but hard to pick out under all the bacon notes. medium body, soft carbonation, some fruity notes, peach, grainy taste, smoky / bacon flavor of course, also some orange / citric notes. dry / fruity finish. quite interesting, drinks a bit like a mixture of a Hefeweizen and a smoked beer. fruity / citric notes are a bit more dominant on the taste than the smoke notes. overall the smoke notes are more apparent on the smell than on the taste. light smoky / grainy / fruity aftertaste. taste is lightly watery but not in a bad way, drinks quite easy. decent.

Bottle @ home. Hazy red-brown color, full sized quickly diminishing a bit fizzy beige head. Smell and taste malts, lightly iron, dark malts, a hint of brown sugar, a hint of dark fruits, sweet and a little bitter. Average body and carbonation.

Hazy orange color with not as big a head as you?d expect. Citrusy, bananas, spicy yeasts. Light citrus-banana taste. More Wit-like than Hefeweizen-like, although no coriander here. Rather light, but fuller than an average Wit. Not much to criticize, but then again nothing special.

330 ml bottle.
Dark copper to brown body, with a small, creamy, light beige head.
Aroma of bread, grains, nuts, dark fruits, slight metal.
Taste is quite light, with about the same aromas.
Medium, oily mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes smooth, bready, nutty.
"Imperial" is a bit misleading in my opinion, actually quite weak for a Bock. Overall not bad though, quaffable and smooth, but nothing special.
