Description
The brewery is located in the picturesque village of Kötschach-Mauthen, Gailtal, Carinthia and derives its name from the old celtic name of Mauthen. Wonderful freshly brewed beer is celebrated here, with its own source, the best raw materials and a lot of love for the product. The brewhouse is modern and state of the art, the beer is traditionally fermented in the open fermentation tank. We are Gailtal's first brewery and have continued the craft that was practiced in Mauthen in 1700. Since opening in 2007, the brewery has been continuously expanded and the range expanded. Far from the mass products of the corporations, artisanal beer is produced here.

330 ml bottle from Grand Cru, Vienna.
Orange, hazy body, with a big, frothy, white head, that dissipates quickly.
Aroma of banana, orange, vanilla, clove and other spices, grains.
Taste follows this, with even more vanilla.
Medium to light mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes spicy, fruity and malty.
OK. Nothing special, but quaffable and with some nice vanilla notes. There are better Hefeweizens from Austria, but also worse.

0.33l bottle. Hazy dark orange body, white head. Aroma of banana, toast, caramel and honey. Taste of caramel, banana, peach with minimal floral hoppiness. Sweet beer but not cloying. I like it.

330 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with tight light head. Aromas of dark chocolate, and dry roasted biscuity malts. Flavors are similar with an emphasis on dry dark chocolate. Imperial - I don’t know - it seems a little light and watery. Nice enough but nothing special. 14

Brown colour. Not much head. The aroma is sweetish, with a touch of fruity character. Has some of that syrupy dark malt aroma as well. Sweet, caramelly taste, touch of molasses late. But a fairly simple bock, unrefined, clean, sticky and sweet.

Bottle [from Euro Swap 7 thanks to Sebilinz] @ home. Clear orange-golden color, medium sized white head that diminishes quite quickly. Smell and taste malts, lightly sweetish grains, a hint of bitter and a hint of caramel. Not a whole lot to it but a drinkable lager for sure.

Tap at Craft bier fest, Vienna. Deep orange color with medium white head. Fruity, citrus hoppy aroma. Solid malty base with candies, followed by nice citrus hoppy kick with grapefruits, pines. Long hoppy bitter finish. Good.
