In 1986, the brothers moved to Durango and opened Carver’s at its current location in the historic downtown. In 1988, Carver Brewing Company became the first brewpub in the Southwest and second in Colorado since prohibition. In the decades that followed, Carver’s has become one of the most medaled breweries on the Western Slope, expanded to create Durango’s largest outdoor Beer Garden, and has donated over $600,000 to community organizations. Carver’s is one of the most-loved local institutions in Durango, winning over the hearts (and stomach’s) of locals and visitors alike.

On tap in Denver for GABF 2012. Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head. A nice nose of oranges and light caramel. The flavor is sweet very fruity, little bitterness, a bit of resin. Good. Quaffable.

On tap in Denver for GABF 2012. Unfortunately, this was a butter bomb on the first day. Pours a pure black color with a small white head. A nose of roast and big butter. The flavor is milky with some roast and cocoa, but more butter and sweetness. Will re-rate.

This was their keg IPA on my visit. Slightly hazy light amber. Nice lacing. Aroma of pine and vague temperate fruitiness. Moderate bitterness, with soft hop stickiness and a light leafy character. Good.

Very dark brown. Rich, chocolatey, oaty, hoppy nose...appetizing. Light, easy-drinking body. Creamy. Moderate bitterness. Complex chocolate malts, and maybe even a hint of minerals. Good stout.

Cloudy tan. The aroma is floral, perfumey, with light herbal hops. Dryish, hoppy with moderate bitterness. Light floral accents are a bit incongruous but inoffensive.

Golden-amber. Lightly smokey aroma, fresh with subtle caramel malts. Lots of smoke on the palate. Good bitterness and a complex brick oven maltiness. Good stuff.
