You’ll find the word ‘pride’ printed on the Speight’s Gold Medal Ale label. It is that pride that defines Speight’s and sets us apart. We are proud to come from a mighty little country that’s prepared to take on the best of the rest.
Pint on tap at Australasian Hotel, Greymouth. Pours a golden amber with a white head of foam. Low slow carbonation. Light nose of grain. Sequential lacing. Typical NZ lager, sweet, light fizz, easy drinking. Not horrible.
It is a regular ale, an ordinary beer, nothing extraordinary, nice copper body, side of bitterness, watery, malt, nice to start a night, 06.09.16, at Prélaz, Lausanne.
[33cl bottle in the Strata Lounge at Auckland Airport.] Golden amber with a ring of white head; grassy aroma; sweet grainy taste; then a watery finish with a little grassy bitterness.
[33cl bottle at a restaurant in Blenheim, NZ.] A dark amber pour with a short lasting white head; malty aroma with a little spice; rather watery but with a sweet nutty malt taste and a light bitterness. A pleasantly drinkable lower alcohol beer.
[33cl bottle at a bar in Waitomo.] A fizzy straw coloured pour with a tight white head; malty aroma; malty taste with some sweet lemonade; and a sticky finish. An old school AF, but not in a good way.
