Canned 12/29/24, drunk 5/20/25, compliments of tfontana. Thanks, Tom!
Dark, clear. Small, dark beige head. Sits at cover.
Quite roasty and toasty. Not too much so. Some moderate base malt character sneaks in as it warms creating notes of hazelnut, honey and chocolate. Clean.
Very toasty up front with big dark malt bitterness and some spicy hops which help brighten. As CLW notes, the body is very light. Brewers have been making lagers at almost half the strength of this with much more flavor. It's very watery. That said, other than a bit too much dark malt, it's very clean and still shows some soft maltiness at points. Chocolatey flavors with mildly spicy hops are quite pleasant.
Seems much more of a dunkel than a schwarz (as it isn't nearly that roasted).
