Description
The Brewery of Saint Mars of the Desert was inspired by the earliest “craft breweries” of Europe: that first generation making beers in disused 19th century breweries with a pioneering spirit, unmoving passion and an almost avant-garde creativity. We relocated from America to the city of Sheffield in South Yorkshire to make this dream a reality and haven’t looked back.

As a very small two-and-a-half person brewery, making world class beers and sharing them fresh with the public is about all we have time for. But who needs more than that?

Keg at Brauhaus. It pours clear yellow with a medium white head. The aroma is soft, almost sweet, brioche, sponge cake, hay, light spice, nougat, cereal, soft fruits and white grape. The taste is dry, bitter, a bit funky, cracker, straw, hay, white grape, gooseberry, some sponge cake, crackery malt, light spice and a nip of alcohol. Medium body and fine, spritzy carbonation. Nice depth, yet subtle. Comes together well.

Tap, at the brewery. Hazed, medium gold. White foam sticks to the glass and lasts the course. Nose has yeasty bread. Hint of clove and ripe banana. Soft, peppery spice. Soft bubblegum notes. Taste is fairly sweet, with more than a touch of peppery spice. Lightly drying. Medium to full mouthfeel. Foamy carbonation. Light dryness on the close, with the soft spice remaining throughout.
