Super clear golden coloured body with a thinnish, pure white head that fades fairly quickly and leaves some bubbles on the sides. Aroma of crisp grain, biscuits, deep lager yeasts, some flowers and a dash of very mild German Saaz hops, but that's it and I literally had to look at the can to make sure they were trying to brew an ale here, because this smells and has all the indications of a lager/pils or perhaps dortmunder. Light-bodied; Strong grassy and herbal flavours dominate with a dry and floral bite with some perfumey notes and a dry bitterness from the hops, but little else and very little in terms of malt or support for the grassy notes, and no other complexities nor sweetness at all. Aftertaste shows some dry and grassy notes (of course), along with some lager yeast and a very grainy bite without much else, support or especially complexities. Overall, a pretty poor attempt at an ale, period, but even worse for any sort of Pale Ale and while the hops are slightly noticeable, much malt isn't noticeable or any real complex notes at all. I sampled this 50 cL can, from Day #9 of the Costco 2020 Advent Calendar, purchased from Costco in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia sampled at my house here in Washington on 09-December-2020.

While I knew this wouldn't be any sort of a 'real pale ale', I wasn't expecting this. Clear golden coloured body with a thinnish, single to perhaps two centimetre tall pure white head that fades fairly quickly. Aroma of grass, light malt, caramel, biscuits, yeast and a dose of soft grain with only a light sweetness noticeable near the end. Light-bodied; Extremely mild flavour of malt, biscuits, grain, yeast and pears with almost nothing else - a touch of dryness and a hint of perfume noticeable, but no hops and not really much of a balance at all from anything structured - this is very watery and showing a lot of lager yeasts, which is about all you'll get from this. Aftertaste shows the grain, a touch of sugars from the biscuits and yeast with nothing following aside from a hint of grass and dryness, but nothing resembling any sort of Pale Ale. Overall, quite poor throughout, and if I had a choice of single beers, this wouldn't be one of them. That said, this was part of my Advent Calendar, so I didn't have a choice - and neither do you, if you have it as part of that! I sampled this 50 cL can as Day Three [of twenty-four] of the 2018 Christmas Advent Calendar, purchased from Costco in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 30-September-2018 for US$59,99/twenty-four, sampled at my house here in Washington on 03-December-2018.

The elusive pale ale! I guess this category just exists for ones that don't fit into other categories? Austrian beers that say German pale ale on label that don't taste like a pale ale at all. Anyway, it's definitely more of an easy drinking stein-level German beer than a pale ale. Some perfume, like the photo on the can suggests. Light citrus, decent grain. Pours golden with good head and lacing. Light crisp finish though not really bitter at all. Even and easy drinking, just not really hoppy like a pale ale. Can from day 9 of Costco advent calendar.

Can for Day 9 of the CostCo Advent pack. Early because I accidentally punctured the can while it was in the box. Not that much of a mess - small hole. Pours clear gold with a large foamy/creamy white head. Aroma of breadiness and Saaz hop. Less than med body. Flavor is bready with grass/spice. Decently bitter. Good drink.

Can, 0.50l. Aroma is floral, grainy, worty, faint tropical fruity and honeyish. Pours cloudy amber color with thin creamy off-white head and soft visible carbonation. Taste starts medium sweet caramelly and bready, following is grassy, papery and medicinal, mouthfeel is smooth, while finish is moderate bitter. Medium body, oily texture and average carbonation in palate. Poorzauber IPA...

330ml bottle. Hazy, dark yellow-ish, golden colour with average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, white head. Sweet-ish, wheaty malty and yeasty fruity, floral and herbal-grassy, hoppy aroma, notes of pear, banana, fresh hay, petals, a touch of basil, whiffs of mustard seed, pink pepper. Taste is dry, floral and grassy hoppy, sweet-ish, wheaty malty, slightly yeasty fruity, hints of banana, fresh hay, some pear, a touch of basil; minimally bready, malty finish. Watery texture, smooth, minimally repellent, palate, fine and soft carbonation. Easily the best beer in this KALEA/Perlenzauber series.

500 ml can purchased as part of the 2020 Costco Advent Calendar at the Costco in Overland Park, Kansas. Exp 2022/05 printed on bottom of the can. The pour is a clear golden with a bright white one inch foamy white head that has great retention. The aroma is grass with a touch of citrus lemon then crisp cracker malt. The taste is fresh cereal malt, softly toasted with the grass and a hint of lemon citrus to the back. The palate is medium bodied with active carbonation and a mineral grass finish. Nice balance between the malt and grass hop, not what an American would generally consider a Pale Ale, but a tasty easy drinking beer.
