About
The tradition of brewing beer in the abbey buildings of the nunnery Göss was revived when in 1860 the brewer and entrepreneur Max Kober acquired parts of the monastery and reactivated the brewery. This important year for Gösser is still noted on the labels today. With the founding of an AG in 1893, Max Kober laid the foundation stone for the development into one of the most important breweries in Austria.

In 1977 Gösser joined the Steirerbrau group, which merged into rivalling Brau-Beteiligungs-AG (BBAG) in 1991. From 1993 both companies operated under Brau Union Austria. In 2003, Gösser with Brau Union was taken over by Heineken.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear, deep golden with a neat and lacing, white head. Decent flowery hop aroma. Medium body, somewhat sweet malts but also a cardboard note and quite massive metallic accents before a hoppy finish. 031225

50cl bottle from BILLA PLUS in Kittsee. Head is big, white, good retention. Colour is gold, clear. Aroma is malty, bit mellow fruity. Taste is full malty base, light herbal hoppy, decent bitterness, bit citrus, medium carbonation, bit bad, enjoyable.

33cl bottle from BILLA PLUS in Kittsee. Head is thin, white, quick gone. Colour is deep gold, clear. Aroma is malty, bready, bit caramel, light hoppy. Taste is medium malty base, light hoppy, bit caramel, decent bitterness, bit low carbonation, bio then drinkable.

(Can) Golden colour with frothy, white head. Malty nose with notes of white bread, honey and orange. Malty taste with crisp-bread, orange, honey, hay and a mild grassy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, quite dry. Distinct macro character, but fairly clean and crisp. Quite enjoyable.
