Bottle from Oriental Brewing in the Geisha District. Aromas of lemon, grass, dry biscuit and white pepper. It has a slightly sweet taste that gets a little cloying, but those other notes are there in the mouth. I had to slog through it a little.

Hmm. A saison and salt beer. Not actually a natural combination. Aromas of banana, raisins, salt and almonds. The salt overwhelms the other flavours in the mouth. Not a very pleasant drinking experience.

Aromas of pine needles, pear and biscuit. Has a chewy palate with strong pine and stonefruit notes. Easy drinking old-school IPA that's quite more-ish.

OB Unite IPA 7% A dull matte brownish red color with a beige head. Again not super attractive looking so as others mentioned, possibly oxidized. I was gone have this as a train beer but didn’t feel like it. The Bistro staff gave me a free bottle opener when I picked this bottle up there which was super kind of them. The beer smells of pine, citrus and stone fruit with loads of herbaceous weedy dank notes. The taste is well balanced pine, citrus and caramel malts. It kind of reminds me of old school dank Stone type double IPAs. Solid stuff.

Sometimes I’m not sure why I bother… Oriental Brewing Subset Hazy IPA 7% Oriental Brewing often have murky looking beers. This hazy IPA looks a muddy brown with a slightly beige head of foam. Terrible looking haze. The aroma is bright juicy citrus, tame for overseas haze but not too different from several J-craft hazy beers. Medium bodied with a rounded carbonation. The taste is sweet mango and citrus, almost feels like lactose is in it. Actually the taste and body aren’t bad, it just looks way off style.

Oriental Brewing OB Rabo #02 Cold IPA 7% Hazy straw gold with a thick eggshell white foamy top that leaves generous lacing. The aroma was white pepper and Sorachi ace catpiss/sweet tarts. Light bodied and bone dry, this is very bitter and earthy. Not balanced but kind of ok and fresh tasting. I’ve yet to try a cold IPA worth the bother but I keep trying.

OB Noto Shio Saison 5% Let’s hope this bottle is better than the last one I had from Oriental Brewing. Souvenir from Kanazawa Station...fairly clear matte copper color (kind of dull looking - not bright) but it has a lovely rocky head of foam and spicy saison aroma. The medium bodied brew gives a salty hit up front then lots of saison spice but at times has a fairly rough earthy finish. This is begging to be served with a lemon wedge. Surprisingly ok/solid.

I ordered Kaga Lotus foot chips with a winter seasonal. Oriental Brewing Weizenbock 7% It’s an opaque ruddy orange with a dense head and rich banana bread aroma that appeals. The beer has a full body and rich spicy clove and banana flavor. The finish is a bit earthy and rough which detracts but generally one of their better beers. Starting to redeem themselves after that horribly infected pumpkin beer I had from them.

Prepping my pumpkins for carving and cracked this beer I got at Yamaoka. OB Pumpkin Jack The beer looks like dirty bathwater with a thin top of fizz and on first whiff I got metallic battery acid. Obviously off, trying to get more than that harshness with straining I can get pumpkin flesh and hints of the vanilla beans but I don’t get the cinnamon really. Thin watery body. Worse I’ve had from Oriental Brewing, this should never have left Ishikawa. Don’t waste your money.
