Description
Great Beer Above All Else
Surly: The frustration we felt when we couldn't find a good beer, much less a great one, in Minnesota. So we made some.
Great beer is all that really matters. Well, that and pushing your limits a bit, looking out for your people, taking pride in where you’re from, and having as much damn fun as you can while doing it.

22oz bottle pours an inky black with no head and legs. Smells aged. Port, cocoa, booze, deep dark dried fruit. Flavor is super port, red wine lees, malt, smoke, caramel. Sweet and thin finish. Finish hurts this.

Another Top 50 (#18) for the style. Draft at brewery. 2025 vintage. Jet black pour. Creamy tan cap. Aromas of treacle and roasted malt. Flavor is more of the same. Dark roasted malt, molasses, tobacco, burnt sugar and resiny pine. Sticky mouthfeel, big hoppy finish. Warming alcohol. Wonderful.

Another Top 50 (#5) for the style. Draft at brewery. Hazy chestnut brown pour. Creamy tan cap leaves nice lacing. Sweet toasted malt aroma has notes of dank citrus and pine. First sip is intoxicatingly bittersweet and dank. Boozy vibes on the palate ring out. Notes of toffee and caramelized malt. A big beer for sure.
