Description
Adam and Grace Robbings opened Reuben’s Brews in 2012, after Adam’s award-winning homebrewing career, naming the brewery after their first child, Reuben.

The original brewery and tasting room in Ballard closed to the public in 2015 when our Taproom opened, but we still brew pilot batches here every week on our 5bbl system. Our Taproom features a brewery right in the middle of the tasting room, where we brew batches of beer that you’ll taste in both here, at The Brewtap, and in distribution. Our system here is 15bbl. In 2019 a new production brewery opened. This is where we brew the majority of the beers you see in cans and bottles on our 30bbl brewhouse, it is also home to The Brewtap, our second tasting room.

At our family brewery we brew from the glass backwards: designing each beer with intention, unbound by constraints. We know making that extra effort is worth it. From your everyday favorites beers to our innovative new releases, we help you grow your love of beer.

Sample at Hale’s in Seattle. Brownish-black pour with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Medium body with a roasty character and flavors of dark chocolate, coffee and malt. The finish is dry with a roast malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

On tap at Reuben's tasting room, pours black with a small tan head. Nose is deep with rich chocolate and hearty oatmeal notes, some faint coffee notes as well. Flavour is fairly rich and creamy, with hearty notes, smooth dark chocolate and light coffee notes. Very low sweetness, which is how I prefer them. Full-bodied and creamy. Well-balanced and constructed. Great one.

On tap at Reuben's tasting room, pours a fairly clean golden with a small white head. Aroma is quite zesty, with grapefruit and orange zest, some citrus hops and some noticeable wheat notes. Flavour is very hoppy, with loads of pungent piney and citrusy hops, very low profile wheat notes, very thin malt profile. Very hop-dominant, with what feels like more than 50 IBU. Solid stuff.

On tap at Reuben's brews, pours a clear golden orange with a small white head. Aroma of piney, soapy and floral hops, flower pedals, and some biscuit malts. Intensely flavourful, full of piney hops, pine needles, some resinous and caramel malts. Extremely full-bodied, yet so easily drinkable. A bit of booze detectable, but still easy to drink. Awesome stuff.

On tap at Reuben's brews, pours a hazy dark amber orange with a medium beige head. Aroma of rye, dry caramel and a bit of citrus. Flavour of rye malt, some roasted and a bit of bitterness from the hops. Doesn't actually strike me as an IPA, but more of a red rye. Finishes with pronounced rye and subtle bitterness. Solid stuff.

On tap at Reuben's brews, pours a deep dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma of dry roasted malt and bitter cocoa. Flavour is very watery, with light toasted malt, bitter cocoa and not much else. Very watery and light-bodied. Decent flavours, but way too weak.

On tap at Reuben's brews, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma of sweet pumpkin puree and a little of the rye spices. Flavour of lightly sweet pumpkin puree and some rye spices as well. Unoffensive and dominated by the puree, with the spice further subdued. Light-bodied and drinkable, but nothing special. Decent.

On tap at Reuben's brews, pours a clear yellow with a small white head. Aroma is light and crisp, with plenty of biscuit, crackery malt and a mild hoppiness. Flavour is light and super-refreshing, with some subtle light fruitiness, crackery malt, and sweet corn (but in a good way). Well-balanced. Nice, soft carbonation - really well-made kolsch.

On tap at Reuben's brews, pours a cloudy, murky dark orangey amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of dry caramel malts, medium pronounced hoppiness, and some metallic overtones. Flavour of citrusy, floral hops, dry roasted caramel malts. Almost reminds me of a black IPA, due to the roast. Surprisingly excellent red ale - one of the best.

On tap at Reuben's brews, pours a deep dark brown with a pronounced amber tinge and a small tan head. Aroma of light coffee, chocolate malts and some light roast. Flavour of dry cocoa powder, light espresso and some burnt roasted malt. Thin and light-bodied, as porters are, but well-flavoured. Finishes roasty and slightly bitter.
