Description
Since 1870 our family, the Meens family, has been brewing its Alfa beers in the traditional way. Alfa Bier's brewing process is still the traditional brewing process. The recipe, the method of brewing and the raw materials have consciously never changed, because we do not compromise on the quality of our beer. Alfa is the only brewery in the Netherlands to have 100% pure spring water from an officially recognized source. That water from our own source determines the special, pure and full taste of our Alfa Beers.

Draught at De Bierfabriek, Amsterdam
Hazy blond color, compact persistent head. The aroma and flavor are quite fruity, nice malt flavor, quite sweet, which I appreciate; correct bitterness.
Atypical but pleasant.

33cl Bottle: best before Apr 2013, poured into a ’La Chouffe’ tulip on 3rd Nov 2012, the first beer in a random tasting evening. Usual golden pilsner/lager look: bright and clean. The nose and taste were on the malty side compared to most tasteless/mini-hoppy flavoured beers of this style. I quietly enjoyed this, which for me to say about a pilsner (drank at home) is very unusual indeed. The malt flavours stayed thoughout the tasting and the body held the alcohol and hop bitterness nicely together which produced a pleasant dry finish.

30 .cl bottle @ home, bought @ Albert Heijn. Clear ruby brown with a thin off-white head. A bit of a swampy aroma with some malts, not really that good. Taste is soft, unoffensive and a bit boring. Some roasted malts, some hops but nothing exciting. Bit of a letdown because I highly appreciate their pilsener.

33cl bottle poured into a ’La Chouffe’ tulip on 25 Oct 2012 @ home. True to the Dort look: clear, bright, clean and golden with a full head of white foam. I thought it went down hill from now on! The nose and taste are fairly sweet with alcohol adding to the strange unbalanced feel the beer gives off. The beer is too sweet and alcoholic for the flavours it has (or more to the point: doesn’t have). Bland and far too sweet for a proper Dortmunder.
