Bottled, thanks Rastacouere! Very black, no head. Lovely aroma of chocolate and grapefruit. Reasonably dry, full bodied, some moilasses and chocolate punch. Some bitterness. Complex, but confusing. Baltic porters are usually very bold, simple beers, this one shoots for finer details and complexity, and gets a bit lost somewhere on the way. An interesting experimental beer though.

Secret Santa beer #6, sent by Jason (Dorwart). Oily, inky body yielded notes of molasses, licorice, toast, and chocolate with perhaps a hint of smoke. Medium-bodied, slightly tart, and plenty complex. Little apparent alcohol. True, there don’t seem to be many Baltic Porters around, but they’re almost without exception excellent.

Hazy orange/blonde coloured body with a small white head. Barnyard scents with a flemish sour aroma. Light-bodied; Heavily carbonated with a good sweetness and residual tartness. Overall, great to try and a decent flavour throughout. I sampled this 75 cL bottle at the November RB party at Founder’s in Alexandria, Virginia on 20-November-2004.

Clear blonde body with some subtle orange highlights and a nice thin white head. Aroma of strong gin (beefeater)-from the juniper berries, dirt and some strong earthyness. Light-bodied; Dirt, pale malt in the taste-nothing real special nor strong. Overall, too plain and too floral to be a great beer. Secret Santa beer #2 sent to me by Jason (Dorwart). Murky apricot yellow-orange body, nary an off-white head. Perfumey, herbal aroma almost reminded me of ginger. Surprisingly sour flavor with a sharp, lemony bite. Tasty herbs carry the day with an effect similar to that of bay leaves peeking through the sour body. Perfumey yarrow is also evident in the flavor. As sour as any beer I’ve had outside a lambic; this is a "bog" beer, relying on the acidity and tannins of its denizen herbs for its earthy, funky effect. I wish more brewers would stray from hops every now and then.

750mL bottle @ the gathering. Peachy yellow/orange, good white head retained. Notes of sharp, acidic fruit esters, lots of yeast and some very dry earthy notes. Very acidic and assaulting up front. Strangely vinous, but it’s white grapes. I have the word Chardonnay in large capital letters in my notes and that’s what it reminds me of, lightly oaky, vinous and has some semi-dry peach notes. All in all it’s too much of a mix between acidic fruits, dry grape notes and dry yeast. Medium-light body, moderate carbonation. Sure is experimental.
