Description
Hilden Brewing Company was established by Ann and Seamus Scullion in 1981 in the courtyard of Hilden House the former home of the Barbour linen barons. Here the Scullions reintroduced into Ireland the tradition of a local brewery making beers of distinctive character and taste. Hilden is now the oldest independent brewery on the island of Ireland. The brewery is now managed by Seamus and Ann’s son Owen who is a qualified and full time brewer.

Our craft beer takes a little bit longer to brew than others. Selecting the finest ingredients and handcrafting the traditional process demands patience. But 35 years? That’s how long we’ve been making our full flavoured beers, improving and perfecting them year after year. It makes us the oldest independent brewery in Ireland and those who drink our beer agree it’s been time well spent.

Overly large white foamy head stayed on an unclear straw coloured body. Zesty citrus & peppery aroma. Medium bodied, lively with a cloying back. Citrus, bubble gum, yeast, herbal & spiced tastes with a property finish. Nice one.

330ml can from Beer52: BB Jan 2022. Drank at home on 2nd May 2021. Thought this might have some rubber or leather esters/flavours, but it doesn't! Light haze to the orange body, lasting white head. Grassy and citrusy nose, taste also citrus like with a grassy note or two, some hidden maltiness too.

@home poured into a pint glass. Slightly unclear deep golden colour, small frothy white head, mostly diminishing, light lacing. Aromanpale malt. Peach, apricot, mango, grain, spicy notes, grassy hops. Smooth taste, medium sweet and bitter, malty, grainy, peach, pineapple, spicy notes. Medium dry sweetbitter aftertaste, light orange pith, grainy, bit peppery on the tongue, well-balanced, easy-goning, very nice bitter.

330ml can via Beer52: BBE Feb 2022. Drank at home on 2nd Apr 2021. Poured a clean and clear amber colour, white head that faded fast. I liked the uncomplicated feel of this bitter brew. No citrus notes or piney traces, just a good old fashioned beer offering a good blend of traditional aromas and flavours.
