Description
Pelican Brewing Company was born at the beach in Pacific City in 1996. Here, in front of a rundown old building at the water’s edge, stood three enthusiastic young folks whose thirst for great beer overshadowed their understanding of what it would take to build a brewery. They did it anyway. And now twenty years later, older, and wiser, Pelican Brewing Company is a craft beer industry leader with fans throughout the Northwest and around the world. Today we’ve taken our breweries and our values to other Oregon coastal towns where we wake up each day in a place that reminds us that amazing is possible. Cheers fellow fanatics. This is as good as it gets.

(Bottled, Oliver Twist, Stockholm, Mar 11) Colour is dark amber/copper, no head. Nose is malty fruity (peaches, cherries) with some herbal notes (fresh coriander?). Taste is mainly malty and roasted, somewhat sweet with strange rubbery notes lingering in the background. Rather short finish with hints (but just hints) of hops. Good, but unexciting.

Dark golden-amber colour. Port, rum, pinot, molasses and wood mix very cohesively in the aroma, with an almost tobacooey note. Full, fat, tangy body with a great pinot/molasses note, subtle wood, late alcoholic dryness and a hint of vinous tartness. So fruity, so malty and dry to boot...oh, shit, that’s good beer.

Fairly dark golden-brown colour. Chewy, woody, molassesy aroma, with a light cherry and plum note. The body is a bit oily and still. Fairly sweet with the full range of malt flavour from caramel to toffee to whole grain bread crust. Sweet finish with a rummy accent.

Very deep mahogany colour. The aroma is rich with alcohol, wood, rum, pears...calvados, really, and Christmas fruitcake. Sweet, a bit oily with a molasses, wood, port and demerara profile. The alcohol, shockingly, is a non-factor here. Very sweet finish.

Golden-amber colour. Rich piney aroma with grapefruit and breadcrust accents. Fresh, rich hops - grapefruit, pine needles and wood mix with toffee and breadcrust. Dry, substantial body but never resiny nor cloying. Outstanding example.

Bright golden-brown. The aroma is fairly toasty and chocolatey with a bit of corn in the background. Fairly substantial alcohol presence. Lots of adjuncts. There is chocolate and toast to try and cover it up bu it can’t really do it.

Black. Rich black patent aroma has depths of espresso and dark chocolate. Richly roasty and bitter body with a brilliantly silky milk chocolate finish. Full body. Very well rounded, balanced character. Complex. This is a fully realized beer.

Near black. Fairly strong aroma with roast and a bit of chocolate and coffee. Smooth, full maltiness. Quite roasty as porters go but with smooth chocolate richness to back it up. Finishes quite dry.

Thanks to cmaruschak for the surprise hookup. Deep black color with a thick and foamy brown head that dissipates steadily. The aroma is chocolate and malt, with a subtle vinous character here and there. Rich body, with a nice blend of coffee and cocoa flavors along with roasted malt and hops. The finish is hoppy and nutty and roasty. Very enjoyable from start to finish.

Draught at the brewpub. Clear ruby, small lasting head. Aroma of toffee and oak. Fruity and sweet with near full body. The vinous barrel character is light and delightfully balanced. Lingering salty bitter finish.
