Description
Pelican Brewing Company was born at the beach in Pacific City in 1996. Here, in front of a rundown old building at the water’s edge, stood three enthusiastic young folks whose thirst for great beer overshadowed their understanding of what it would take to build a brewery. They did it anyway. And now twenty years later, older, and wiser, Pelican Brewing Company is a craft beer industry leader with fans throughout the Northwest and around the world. Today we’ve taken our breweries and our values to other Oregon coastal towns where we wake up each day in a place that reminds us that amazing is possible. Cheers fellow fanatics. This is as good as it gets.

12 oz. 2021 can is 7.5% ABV and 65 IBUs. Aroma is floral, dark bread, caramel, toasted marshmallow, coffee. Pours brown with amber highlights and a one+ finger beige head with excellent retention. Taste has a sweet roasty malt character backed by a moderate to high pithy bitterness that lingers on the palate. Finishes dry.

Can from The Locker Room. Dark brown pour with a small tan head. Aroma of roast and chocolate, light mocha. Bittersweet with roast and coffee, just a bit of chocolatey sweetness. Seems a bit thin and muted.

I was starting to wonder if my palette changed now that I love all barleywines but nah, MoAS is still English AF upfront. Really needs to hit room temp and then damn delicious strong toffee raisin dark fruit smoothness.

500 ml from work. Aroma has notes of passionfruit, raspberries, chocolate, coffee, wet stone, funk. Pours black with a half finger beige head that falls into a ring quickly. Taste is lightly sweet with moderate to high (for style) bitterness and some tartness from the fruit. Perfect velvety mouthfeel. Not too shabby.

12 oz, thanks Brenn. Aroma has notes of apricot, matchsticks, lemon rind. Pours murky orange, like pureed apricot, with a one finger off-white head with decent retention. Taste has a moderate to high pithy bitterness with flavors of apricot. A little thin and watery. Not bad, though.
