Tasting at Papsø
Hazy red-mahogany color; nice creamy head, persistent. Caramel and malt aroma. Sweet caramel flavor, nutty, with darker caramel; too much alcoholic, burning; the final is quite boozy; strong bitterness. More unbalanced than the 2007 version tasted in parallel. This Barley Wine kisses boredom.

Tasting at Papsø
Dark mahogany color with red shades; small sized creamy head. The aroma shows some signs of oxidisation; some malt and caramel. Sweet sticky body, strong caramel flavor; strong bitterness but also a bit too much alcohol and burning feeling; the final is quite boozy. It’s a nutty Barleywine, saved by being sweet, but without much complexity, and going downhill.

dark unclear amber, small yellowish offwhite head. aroma is balanced, a little flowery, yeast, malts, flavor is tofee, caramel, ends bitter and old hoppy unfortunately. if you are into aged beer, this one is pretty tasty.

(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of Ungstrup. Clear, deep, amber golden with a beige head. Fat aroma of caramel and overripe fruit and also some oily aroma hops. Quite full-bodied with plenty of burned caramel, vanilla and overripe fruit. There’s a distinct and warming alcohol burn. 191207

Sample at the "Portland? Psh More Like Beerland" tasting on 03/10/10. 2008 bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a medium light beige head that diminishes steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malt, yeast and dark fruit. Medium body with flavors of malt, dark cherries, yeast and spices. The finish is malty with a mild yeast aftertaste. Overall this is an interesting and tasty Belgian.

Sample at the brewpub. The beer pours a clear dark amber color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Floral hops aroma as well as malt. Light to medium body with flavors of roasted malt, caramel and floral hops. The finish is mildly hoppy with a bitterness that does not linger long. Decent overall.

Sample at the brewpub. This brew is a clear orange color with a medium white head that diminishes to an outer ring. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malt and floral hops. Medium body with flavors of floral hops, sweet malt, caramel and a touch of yeast. The finish is hoppy with a lingering floral finish. Above average overall.

Sample at the brewpub. This brew pours a clear amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Hoppy aroma with notes of bready malt behind it. Medium body with a somewhat hoppy flavor that has citrusy qualities. Notes of caramel malt and flowers as well. The finish is hoppy with a lingering citrus aftertaste. Decent overall.
