Cask handpull at Knights Templar JDW Chancery Lane. Last half pint so not expecting much. Clear gold thin lasting cream head. Citrus hoppy aroma. Like satsuma and tangerine and that really small orange fruit with a funny name kumquat? Very little condition in mouth due to being the last bit out. But the fullness in the mouth and girgeous hop finish is unmistakeable. I really is very good. I have seen Hawkshead as solud their stout is very good and remember drinking that and the bitter in the Ship and Mitre in Liverpool. And their red ale at Kent BF. So they clearly make memorable beer. This could be good but hard to tell in this condition. Citra is definite as is the Bramling Cross bitterness. I need this again. Good though

Cask. A pitch black beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of sweet and roasted malt combined with caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel and roasted malt, leading to a dry and roasted finish.

Cask at NWAF, 2011. Black pour with a beige head. Licorice, chocolate, coffee and vanilla aromas. Flavours of cinnamon, vanilla, chocolate and licorice. Dry, malty finish. Quite sweet.

Bottle: Almost clear, pale greenish-golden, big loose beaten-egg-white-like head; solid grassy-hayish hops in the nose; moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour, soft, light to medium bodied; slightly lingering dryish bitter-sweet finish with zesty traces in the aftertaste. Good brew from a good brewery......

(bottle, 33cl, gushing) Slightly unclear, pale golden colour with a tall but loose frothy white head. Slightly dusty, pale malty aroma with grassy hops. Moderately bitter flavour with a tinge of sourness, light bodied with a lively carbonation. Pale malty and grassy hoppy taste, leading into a dry, a bit slim and grassy hoppy finish. A rather lame Pilsener interpretation. 22.XII.10

Cask (handpump) @ The Back of Beyond, 104-108 Kings Road, Reading, Berkshire, England RG1 3BY.Clear medium yellow to orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, malty, moderate hoppy, grass, citrus. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is carbonation is soft to flat. Clear, creamy off-white head. Spotty lacework. Chestnut coloured body. Dark, half way sweet malts to the nose. Caramel malts mixed with plums and berries. Nice bitter ending. Cask, 4.2% ABV, half pint at Bankers Draft (JDW), Sheffield 1 Oct 10.

Bottle: Deep ruby-amber coloured, smaller loose and stable off-white head; moderate to rich aromas of dry roasted malt, ashes and freshly ground coffee; balanced by sweet dark malt and dried fruits; solid dry bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied; lingering dryish finish: toasted malt, dried fruits and ashes, followed by a roasty-bitter aftertaste. Another gem from Hawkshead......

Bottle: Almost black, presumably hazy, medium sized, stable rocky beige head; solid semi-dry roasty and slight sweet-fruity (dried berries) nose; light to medium-bodied, very soft, moderate dryish bitter-sweet flavour with a light acidic touch; slightly lingering bitter-chocolatey finish with fruits and some gentle acidity. A good one from a good brewery......
