Cask (Hawkshead Beer Festival 2010): Literally black, smaller stable off-white foamy layer; milk-chocolate and vanilla - indeed - in the nose, accompanied by a light acidity; light to moderate bitter-sourish flavour, light bodied; fruity and toasty finish, chocolate in the aftertaste. Good.....

Cask (@King’s Arms, Hawkshead): Golden to deep golden, creamy off-white head; distinctive aromatic-hoppy nose, with malt and berries underneath; moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied; lingering hoppy finish with an increasing fruitiness in the aftertaste. Very good....

15th April 2010. Clear pale gold beer. Creamy white head but oddly - zero carbonation! Light palate a little soft. Creamy feather light malt with some minerals. A nice smooth orange and grapefruit fruit comes through the malt. The orange imparting sweetness and the grapefruit provides bitterness. A whisper of pineapple. Dry finish, smooth. Very drinkable lager!

Bottled at The Globe, Central, HongKong. Black, small creamy head. Aroma of bitter dark chocolate. Dryish with medium body. Spicy grasst hops covering a pleasantly roasty body with healthy doses of dark chocolate in its heart. After a well rounded mouthfeel growing but unsassaulting bitterness comes along. Anharmonious, flavourful stout.

Cask at the CASK Pub & Kitchen, London on 17th April 2010. Gold with white lacing head. Citric and sharp herby hop, and a rich grapefruit finish. Zingy mouthfeel. Enjoyable pint.

[Cask at the Monks Retreat, Reading] Very pale bronze, moderate off-white head, slight fizz. Lovely soft, comforting mouthfeel. Biscuity malts and toast mix with floral flavours, with just a hint of lager hops in the background. The more I drank it, the more I liked it and the more I wanted to drink! Surprised me by being my favourite beer of the Spoons April 2010 festival.

Cask handpull at Muggletons, JDW, Maidstone. Gold, slight haze. Disappearing white head. Perfectly fine cask lager, some perfumed hop, but perfectly drinkable, no cardboard, no wet dog. Some peachy lemon which is odd, but I’d drink it. It’s a pretty decent go at it really as some cask lagers just fail badly, this is pretty decent and a lot better than some golden ales I’ve had.

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. A very drinkable cask lager. Straw with a thin white head; grassy aroma; soapy texture with a soft cirtus flavour; then some clean Bavarian-style hops to finish.

Cask @ Counting House, JDW. Clear golden colour, white head. Aroma is sweet candy. Very weird and unexpected. Flavour is malty, smooth, sweet. Lacks some bitterness, but overall ok drinkable.
