Description
Dixie Brewery opened shop on a vacant lot on Tulane Avenue in New Orleans in 1907. It produced the flagship brand as well as others for 99 years until Hurricane Katrina devastated the facility in 2005. Finally, it’s coming back home.

By late 2019, Dixie will restore all brewing production to the city of New Orleans in an 85,000 square foot facility in New Orleans East. It will house a 100-barrel brewhouse as well as a 15-barrel craft system for the creation of new beers. By early 2020, Dixie will be open to the public to tour the facility, the production process, learn more about its history and sample its many tasty brews.

Committed to making our home more unified, welcoming and resilient for future generations, the brewery was renamed Faubourg Brewing Co. in 2020 as a tribute to the diverse neighborhoods that flavor our gumbo-pot home. Faubourg — pronounced “FO-burg” — is a French word that we New Orleaneans often use interchangeably with “neighborhood.” Our beers have always brought people together, so it’s only natural that we celebrate every corner of our one-of-a-kind city.

Today, Faubourg Brewing Co. is the oldest operating brewery in New Orleans. We’re locally owned and operated, proud of our perseverance, and more excited than ever about what our future holds. See you around the neighborhood!

White can, pours clear pale. Nose is slightly metallic. First taste is certainly pale lager but it has a little more bitterness than I was expecting. Pretty ruff, especially since the last lager I had was a holandia and it was pretty good. Not bad, just a little uncivilized for a lager. But hey, I see now its actually a pilsner as listed here. So yea, it does have a sort of dull bitter pilsner bite, but its a little less piercing compared to many domestic pilsner.

12 oz. can from Total Wine. Pours a crystal clear gold color with an off-white head and great retention. Good lacing. Standard pale malt aroma. Listed as a pilsner, but tastes like a pale lager to me. Clean and smooth with good lager flavor. Crisp mouthfeel without being overcarbonated. Good body. Not bitter. A really good, well made lager.

Can, big foamy vanilla yellah head. Pale with a light brown tint. Rather mild sweet nose. Taste at first is just a tad cloying, but not too bad. Not too sure if I can pick out the coffee flavor. However, if I focus on it I can feel the coffee hiding back there in the background. Not sure if this should be styled as a simple blonde or golden, it's much more than that. Does have some detectable co2 about it on the palate. Rich mouthfeel? Not sure, just saying. Yea, this is probably more of a flavored pale ale, certainly not a well-behaved blondie. Oh well, so many mislabel beer styles going around and this is just another. To lazy to send corrections to admin. Decent alky level if nothing else.

Can at Black Penny. Pours a hazy orange gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of orange with light rind and a touch of grain backing. Flavor has a great orange and citrus combination with a touch a grain underlying.

Can Liz brought back from Vin Carre in New Orleans. Pours clear bright gold with a decent creamy white head that was quick to leave. Aroma is light bready with floral notes. Med body or so. Dryish. Bitterish. Pilsner? More likely per the name. Decent drink tho.
