Description
Dixie Brewery opened shop on a vacant lot on Tulane Avenue in New Orleans in 1907. It produced the flagship brand as well as others for 99 years until Hurricane Katrina devastated the facility in 2005. Finally, it’s coming back home.
By late 2019, Dixie will restore all brewing production to the city of New Orleans in an 85,000 square foot facility in New Orleans East. It will house a 100-barrel brewhouse as well as a 15-barrel craft system for the creation of new beers. By early 2020, Dixie will be open to the public to tour the facility, the production process, learn more about its history and sample its many tasty brews.
Committed to making our home more unified, welcoming and resilient for future generations, the brewery was renamed Faubourg Brewing Co. in 2020 as a tribute to the diverse neighborhoods that flavor our gumbo-pot home. Faubourg — pronounced “FO-burg” — is a French word that we New Orleaneans often use interchangeably with “neighborhood.” Our beers have always brought people together, so it’s only natural that we celebrate every corner of our one-of-a-kind city.
Today, Faubourg Brewing Co. is the oldest operating brewery in New Orleans. We’re locally owned and operated, proud of our perseverance, and more excited than ever about what our future holds. See you around the neighborhood!

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy deep orange/copper color with a 1 finger dense cream colored head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of chocolate, cocoa, herbal, grass, and roast/toasted earthiness. A bit of fruity aromas, but not overwhelming. Nice and pleasant aromas with good complexity dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of chocolate, cocoa, herbal, grass, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/grassy hop and roast bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, chocolate, cocoa, herbal, grass, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/roast bitterness. Nicely clean on lager flavors, not too fruity/yeasty. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is a nice dark lager. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish Very flavorful for the low ABV. Clean and nicely rich malts, with mild earthy hop balance. A nicely enjoyable offering, and well made style example. Kind of midway between a dunkel and schwarzbier.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy pale golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, cracker, corn, white bread, light toast/biscuit, and mild herbal/grassy earthiness. A bit too fruity on aromas. Poor aromas with pale malt/corn and mild earthy hop notes; with decent strength. Taste of lemon, cracker, corn, white bread, light toast/biscuit, and mild herbal/grassy earthiness. Mild herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, cracker, corn, white bread, light toast/biscuit, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness of pale malt/corn and mild earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Very clean on lager flavors, with minimal yeast notes present. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is good. A bit thin, but not watery. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is a decent pale adjunct lager. Other than the poor aromas, it had nice robustness of pale malt/corn and mild earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink. Very flavorful for the low ABV, and not too heavy on adjuncts. Clean pale malt/grain flavors and mild earthy hop balance. An enjoyable offering.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Pours a clear, nutty brown with a lacing, beige head. Nose has subtle burned caramel. Medium body, very soft on the palate. Again burned caramel, subdued roast, slightly nutty with a hint of cardboard. There's not an awful lot going on here, but it's a decent little drinker in it's own right. 241117

330ml bottle @ Hickory’s Smokehouse, Chester. Dim lighting so no comment on appearance. Grassy aroma with moderately sweet malts. Taste continues, fairly light, but accompanied my ribs well.
