Description
Casa Agria Specialty Ales is a small brewery focusing on mixed fermentation farmhouse style ales and barrel aged wild ales in Ventura County, California. Like much of California, Ventura County agriculture and farming has played a vital role in the development of the communities here throughout time. The mild climate and rich soil allows for several harvests throughout the year making it one of the most valuable resources here. For these reasons the farmhouse style is a perfect style to refresh during a warm dry winter and a mild summer day alike from one harvest to the next. Further influence is found in the food ingredients and diverse cultural traditions of the people who shaped the California of today.

Poured from a 16 oz can dated April 1, 2020. Aroma is malt forward with toasted bread, dark caramel, roast and chocolate notes. Hints of dark fruit with medium light herbal, spicy hop notes. Pours a very dark brown, almost back with a large, thick, pillowy, tan head that recedes slowly to a small, creamy film that lingers. Fairly high amount of lacing and no legs. Flavor has a medium light sweetness with moderately strong notes of toasted bread, dark caramel and toffee. Lighter roast and chocolate notes. Medium to medium high bitterness with a moderate herbal, spicy hop note. Hint of alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer. Hop profile might be a tad strong, but still very refreshing.

Poured from a 16 oz can. Aroma is hop forward and very fruity with light cracker malt and wheat notes. Lots of mango, lychee, passion fruit, coconut, mangosteen and other tropical fruit. Lighter citrus and stone fruit notes with hints of dank, resin. Faint alcohol notes. Pours a hazy, pale, dusty, yellow straw color with a large, thick, pillowy white head that recedes slowly to a small film that lingers a bit larger on the edges. Fairly high lacing and faint legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with light cracker malt and wheat notes. Medium to medium light bitterness and a hint of alcohol spice. Fairly strong hop notes, a bit less fruity than in the aroma. Moderate hop notes of mango, guava, tropical citrus, orange and lighter dank, resin notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer with lots of great hop aroma. I wish the flavor had a bit more of the character that the aroma has. Nice, light malt profile that makes this very crushable.

Plenty of honey! On the nose and front, sunflower seeds (used to be my favorite thing as a kid) on the nose and finish. Lingering sunflower seed finish. Been too long since I had either casa agria or sunflower seeds.
