5th Annual MBG Winter Beer Festival, Grand Rapids. Murky orange-brown body, medium cream head. Oaky nose, sour and fruity, tangy, and herbal. Quite oaky body, lactic and tangy, with sour, tart fruits. Good complexity.

5th Annual MBG Winter Beer Festival, Grand Rapids. Murky orange-brown body, medium off-white head. Sour, lactic nose with balsamic vinaigrette, wet hay, and tropical fruit. Wonderful. Complex, delicious body with sour, puckering lemon, balsamic vinaigrette, grassy, wet hay and tropical fruit (pineapple, banana), with a tart finish. This was the standout of the show, an exemplary sour beer. Thankfully, I was able to acquire one sample; alas, I was unable to secure another, and my fossil longing is stored here, on Ratebeer, for digital eternity.

750 ml bottle sampled@RBNAG 2009, Vatlandsvåg. Dim reddish orange with a thin off-white head. Aroma is fruity and acidic with a Bret profile. Flavor is fruity aromatic, quite mild Bret impression, very refreshing with a funky, dry finish and well hidden alcohol. This is simply good, interesting and fun in a bottle.

tap at the brewery (warning - my notes are months old) - barrel aged honey crisp cider, 6.75% abv. Should this be a separate entry? - Hazy yellow, rich apple aroma. It’s sweet with a good, full flavor. I think my palate was shot as I wasn’t really getting the barrel flavor in this one, but perhaps it just blended well with the whole and contributed to what seemed to be a fuller flavor than the other ciders I tried there. Enjoyable.

tap at the brewery (warning - my notes are months old) - pale yellow with an aroma of golden apples as you would expect. It’s a light, sweet drink as is common with ciders. There’s not enough going on here, but it’s drinkable enough.

tap at the brewery (old notes) - Hopefully I got this right as to my surprise the beer wasn’t entered here yet but a barrel aged version was. Pours hazy pale yellow. The aroma is very much pear led. It tastes light, sweet, and of course of pears. The sweetness goes right into the finish. It’s simple but quite good.

tap at the brewery (warning - my notes are months old) - Pours hazy yellow with good lacing and a yeasty, bready malt, and flowery hop aroma. The flavor is a well balanced blend of the bready malt and crisp hops. Solid, easy drinking brew.

tap at the brewery (warning - my notes are months old) - Pours a cloudy straw color and has a wheat heavy aroma with yeast and citrus. It smells really good. The flavor is a bit lacking. It’s sweet wheat with a touch of citrus and spice and a light, bubbly body.

tap at the brewery (warning - my notes are months old) - Pours hazy orange-brown. There’s lots of caramel malt aroma like a chewy caramel candy. The medium body tastes of sweet caramel malt and has a lightly hopped finish. Nice fall brew.
