Surprisingly good considering the median score of 2.7. Light brown/red, lots of carbonation and a thin head. Smells like a dunkel, lots of malt and rotting fruit. Flavor is also much like a dunkel as well as qualities of a nut brown ale. There is more sweet malt, carmel and roasted nuts as well. At the top of its class for a traditional brown ale.

Not bad. The best thing about this beer is the full aroma, with banana, orange, and bubblegum. The aroma reminded of a high quality German hefeweizen. Cloudy orange color, thin head, and I see very little sediment, in very fine pieces. Medium flavor, a little sweet, with more citrus and just a little sour at the end. Body is thinner than I would like it to be.

Thanks to Slikwily for this beer. A thick and hazy ipa, it resembles a wheat beer in appearance and looks better than most of the style. ABV is higher than I expected. Full hop aroma. Flavor is herbal hops, some citrus, and all on a substantial malt base. Very good.

Reminds me more of an american strong ale, or even a barleywine - nice herbal aroma, with abundant cherry, strawberry, a touch of caramel - copious spicy hops countered by an aggressive malt profile - orange, grapefruit, strawberry - caramel sweetness, bread, oats - very full and rich, leading me to my comparisons above.

This seemed like a good place to start at the Michigan Winter Beer Fest, before things got crazy. I believe this was the non barrel-aged version. Raisiny aroma and flavor with molasses, toast, coffee, and chocolate. Sweet, malty body. The complex sweet-yet-bitter aroma was the best part about this beer. Very well-done.

Purchased in a 12 ounce black-capped bottle at the brewery. Golden-amber body, medium light cream head. Spicy, estery aroma with sugary apple cider and white grape, thin and tart. Sweet, white grape body with apple, clove, and bitter spices, rather thin and tart, cidery with an overabundance of sugars. Likely uses the yeast strain used for the Celis beers. Advertised as a Dubbel but this strays strongly from the formula, and is very similar to the Celis Grand Cru. Not remarkable.

On tap at Michigan Brewing Co. Deep red body, medium-thin pink head. Tart cherry aroma, estery (cloves), strong and almost cloying, with spices, alcohol, and phenols. Body of tart, sweet cherry life-savers, very sugary, with spicy (pepper clove) esters and a bitter finish with warming alcohol and cough medicine phenols. Alcohol is warming but not too hot; the emphasis is on tart cherry with little of the Belgian Dubbel. Different but not exemplary.

On tap at Michigan Brewing Co. Deep red-brown body, translucent, medium light tan head. Aroma of molasses, toast, brown sugar, and caramel. Toasty body with caramel, molasses, and brown sugar, paired with unusual corny earthy notes typically found in pale lagers, but lending a unique character to this beer. Cornier and not as sweet as the other example I tried at Harpers in East Lansing. Tasty.

Poured from a brown 32-ounce plastic bottle. Moral of the story? The aroma is much better once it’s poured. Hazy light orange body, puffy, dense off-white head. Banana and clove aroma. More of the same from the flavor, which starts primarily with bananas and finishes with clove and earthy, slightly bitter hops. Quite average. I’m not sure I want all 32 ounces, though I don’t think a certain Saturday Night Live alum would agree. "But I must!"

This is actually brewed with an ale yeast rather than a lager yeast. Light straw body, thin off-white head. Slightly cerealy, watery aroma with just a touch of grassy hops. Tangy, tart, white grape flavor (mr_kimchee nailed it) with a grassy, biscuity finish. New 2005 batch, so apparently somebody thought this deserved another run!
