Description
**Re-branded as Electric Village in 2026**

River Leven Ales is a small, independent brewery founded in 2011 by Harry Heskey to provide traditionally-brewed, cask-conditioned ales to the licensed trade.

The brewery is located on the West Highland Way beside the River Leven, in the village of Kinlochleven, Argyll. The magnificent location of the brewery provides stunning scenery and the pure water supply that make River Leven Ales so distinctive.

All the ales are brewed following traditional methods, using only top-quality ingredients - not least of which is our superb Kinlochleven water which is both plentiful and pure. There is no sugar or unmalted grain in any River Leven Ales recipe.

The brewery is housed in the former carbon bunker of the aluminium smelter factory - a monument to the proud, industrial history of the village of Kinlochleven. This historic building, left in the care of the Kinlochleven Development Trust, has now been entrusted to River Leven Ales, who hope to carry this legacy forward with commitment to the village and the local economy.

500ml bottle: BBE Oct 15. Poured into a UK pint sleeve at home on 6th Mar 15, during Scottish tasting session I had with myself. Blonde in name, golden in colour, the head a fast fading white covering. Not much in the nose, some mild maltiness with a whiff of hops below maybe. The taste however was fine, malty lead with a good bitter centre and finish. Toffee notes in the flavour, but not overly sweet. Decent and enjoyable: would be happy to drink this again and again, a good session ale.

Bottle from the Scottish Real Ale shop. Appearance - dark brown to black and opaque. Decent head. Nose - Highland Toffee and hazelnuts. Taste - more of the same. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly good finish if a bit sweet. But hey that’s the style. Overall - even though the style has been nailed I’d have liked it to be a touch fresher at this abv.
