Small, yellow-beige head over ruby to brown beer. Chocolatey, chocolate malts, cacao nose, maltsyrup, smelling sweet. Nicely balanced taste with sweet, bitterish and even slightly acidic (mainly the CO², probably). Chocolate malts, wafflesyrup, but nowhere cloying. Again cacaopowder retronasal, wood and liquorice. Light body, well carbonated without becoming fizzy. SLighlty velvety, sticky texture backthroat. Good, drinkable mild, way better than the nose suggested. Haven’t got a clue where this one hailed from. Alvinne beershop??

Cask at the Claret Free House. It pours clear amber, with a thin foamy white head and soft carbonation. The nose is wood, polish and sweaty sock. The taste is wood, hay, lime, lemon, orange pith, polish, astringency, caramel and brown bread, with a dry finish. A flavorsome and well balanced bitter.

Cask at Thomson’s Bar. A golden ale with small head retention. The nose is of pale malt but fruity. The taste is of more pale malty, but the hops and malt seem to be conpeting. The palate is light to medium and again wishy-washy. The overall impression is of the kind of wishy-washy ale that had me running back to lager in the past.
