Cask at CPK, Pimlico on 30th September 2022. Clear coppery amber with shallow off-white foam and patchy lacing. Nutty malts in aroma. Spiced fruits and plenty of maltiness in-mouth, and a finish of hazelnut with hints of bitterness. Velvet smooth mouthfeel and a medium body. An interesting ale.

[Cask at the Alehouse, Reading at 4.3% ABV] A reddish chestnut pour with a tight beige head; aroma of purple fruit with a touch of spice; luscious fruity taste with spiced plums and damsons; then a lingering bitter finish with more fruit. Seemingly very good- I rated it 3.8 at first. Then I read the other reviews and had a second, and was disappointed to find it sweeter and more treacly; along the lines of Hobgoblin, so I’ve adjusted my score a little.

[Cask at the Alehouse, Reading.] An amber pour with a ring of white head; sugary aroma; sweet honeyed floral taste with a grainy body; then some interesting aromatic bitterness from the hops. Rather good.

Cask at Smithfield, Derby. Pours almost black with a small cream head. There’s a good aroma here of blackcurrants, roast malts and traces of coffee. In the mouth it has a creamy texture with plenty of flavours. Mainly chocolate and milky coffee, but also some dark fruits and hints of biscuits. Finish is slightly more bitter, with accompanying fruitiness. A pretty decent milk stout.

Bottle thanks to Ashton McCobb. Pre-warned I opened it slowly over the sink! Didn't lose too much. Still just poured out a glass of absolute foam, which eventually collapses into a hazy yellow gold beer. Getting some lime on the nose, light spice. Taste is cereal grains, faint citrus. There's not a right lot going on.

Bottle from the brewery online shop. This one 7.3%. Appearance - mat black and opaque. Beige to tan head. Nose - creamy dark chocolate and coffee roast. Taste - bitter dark chocolate then creamy coffee with bitter roast on the finish. Palate - medium bodied, roasty edge to it. Overall - good though not my style at all. Base beer good but the coffee addition makes it less complex.
