Dark brown and no head. Smells very chocolatey and fudgey. Creamy, fudgey character, with lots of sweet malts. . Good brew, drinks easy.

Deep gold. No head. Malty, slightly herbal aroma. Lots of malt, herbal saaz and appetizing bitterness. Good balance. Tasty. Not really a pilsner, but a good 14P svetly.

Dark brown. This was actually poured with a thin head - a nice change of pace. The aroma is chocolatey, maybe a bit of roast. On the palate, it has a more toasty, chocolatey accent. The mouthfeel is creamy, and there’s a bit of dryness from hops to balance the creamy malt sugars. Not perfect - there’s a bit of huskiness late - but it’s pretty nice.

Dark brown with no head...they never pour with any head...not even a little. Drives me nuts. The aroma is straightforward nutty-roasty. On the palate, it is simple and roasty with a mild nutty accent. The flavours are reaonably assertive, like a training wheels version of Sprecher Black Bavarian, but the body is closer to the likes of Stortebecker...not really a good thing. Ends up kind of in the middle, neither terribly characterful nor all that smooth.

Pale straw and hazy. Vague continental hop nose. Similar palate. Light fruit and some bubblegum. Hmmm...lots of QC issues on their German-style stuff lately.

Amber-brown colour. No head, but that’s normal at Second St. The aroma is mostly caramelly, maybe into toffeeish territory a bit. On the palate, some caramel and alcohol. Definitely some phenols (bubblegum) and esters that shouldn’t be there. Similar to the Altbier, lots of flaws.

Dark amber with a bubbly head. Earthy, leafy hop aroma with diacetyl. The taste is quite buttery, with light floral character and earthy hoppiness.

Dark brown. The aroma is chocolate, earthy and a little bit smokey. Rich, earthy, smokey, malty with light alcohol. Complex but easy-drinking. This was worthy of a few return trips, probably the best beer I’ve had at Second Street.

Amber. Slight haze. Earthy, malty aroma. Very rich, malty with lots of alcohol and light fruitiness. As a random amber I don’t think it works, and it is definitely not an alt.

Hazy medium amber. No real head. Biscuity, caramelly malt with slightly resiny hops that seem American. Moderately woody (cascadey) bitterness. Lots of caramel character but it is rich and blends well with the hops. Nicely balanced with a sticky, moderately bitter finish and a fairly clean yeast character.
