Cask at the Shaking Hand, Shirley. Poured a very slightly hazy golden colour with an everlasting frothy white head. The aroma is malt, light citrus fruits. The flavour is moderate bitter and sweet, with a smooth, malt, grainy, biscuit, juicy citrus, woody hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Finally a cask APA that really works.

Cask at Great Derbyshire Beer Festival. Pours a murky burgundy with a small off-white head and good lacing. Vanilla features very strongly in the aroma here – and perhaps there is maple as well ? Vanilla again in the mouth, along with rye-bread and some autumn fruits, on a base of sweet caramel. A little bitterness comes in at the finish. This is very pleasant – and more mainstream than its description implies.

On cask at Cocker Hoop Nottingham. Cloudy dark orange colour with a white head. Aroma and taste are citrus and slight tropical sweet. Smooth body.

Cask at Alexandra, Derby. Poursa cloudy pale straw with minimal white head. Lemon and general citrus are prominent in the aroma. Sweet and creamy initially in the mouth but soon citra hops and grapefruit come along and spoil everything. Finish is dry with lemony citrus yuckiness. Too citrussy for my liking – but hey it’s a brewery tick !

Cask at the Wellington, Birmingham. Poured a clear black colour with a mostly lasting frothy off-white head. The aroma is roasty malt, light floral hops. The flavour is liqourice bitter, light sweet, with a smooth, rich, dry, light rum, red berry fruit, floral hop bitter palate and an everlasting long bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Not really as described.

Keg tap at the Blue Boar, Leicester. Mid- to dark gold, hazy with a film of white head and some lacing. Aroma is bedeck'd with peaches, although I'm getting some of the black tea notes in the background. Taste is seriously sour, not just a bit tart bit full-on sour. Once I get used to it, it's gorgeous. There's a slight off-taste at the very start but it covers up and just gives me lush peach. Beer of the evening (by a Long way) for me.
