Description
Focussing on "the good side of life" is what Big Belly Brewing is all about. We love things a little bigger, going the extra mile, adding something special, being more creative. But above all, we love things in life that are a bit more fun.

All our beers are well balanced and made with premium "The Swean" malts, so we get the full, distinctive beers that we are proud of. After coming up with a special touch, we design a legendary character for every beer. Finally, we write and add an amusing story about the character and the beer. That's how we make one of the most fun things, drinking beer, even more fun.

Spannendes Stout!

The Rye barrel aged version of this beer is quite all right. So now I have a 33 cl bottle of the Cognac barrel aged quad obtained from a stalwart retailer in the Netherlands. Arrayed is my Straffe Hendrik large tulip glass ready and waiting for the delivery. The body is mahogany colored with a bare skim of medium tan, very fine foam. The scent, dessert indeed, smells like a boozy pecan pie. The glass is tilted for a taste. Right off, it offers equal portions of a quadrupel and then a rich dessert. Plums, dark raisins, caramel, nougat, pecans, malt and an alcohol presence provided by the barrels I assume. Sweeter than I prefer but that goes with the territory. Still, this is an enjoyable drink.

A significantly anticipated quadrupel that came from a helpful seller in the Netherlands a few months ago. A quad with additional flavors I like, what is there not to enjoy? We shall see. I have the favored Trappistes Rochefort glass ready to receive the pour. I navigate the wax, lift the cap off the 33 cl bottle and pour to view a golden brown liquid with little head but a plentiful recharging from the carbonation. The nose is decadent with toffee, dates, a hint of pecans and alcohol. I lift the glass to take a sip. This is one of the few times that the taste of the beer aligns with the advertised adjuncts. The pecan pie effect comes through strongly with cane syrup, pecans, bread and additionally chocolate, whiskey and dark raisins. This is a tasty drink and has much of a dessert quality to it. Nice.

Aus der Flasche im 2023-02 getrunken. Dieses Stout wirkt mit seinen hohen Alkoholgehalt fast schon leicht. Neben einem Schokoladen-Aroma fällt eine leichte Zimt-Note auf. Kein schlechtes Stout!

A black beer, a is medium and beige. Aroma has hazelnuts, some chocolate and toffee. The hazelnuts are just brilliant in the aroma. Taste has caramel, hazelnuts, hint of dark coffee. Full bodied, not stickyness. I love this huge amount of hazelnut flavours.

0.33 l can from ''t Biermenneke', 5.5% abv, best before November 2024. Hazy, deep orangeish amber with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, off-white head. Sweetish, gently yeasty-spicy, quite fruity-floral aroma of mango, pear, banana and some clove. Gently sweet, moderately bitter, rather fruity-floral and quite yeasty-spicy taste of mango, pear, banana, grains and some clove, followed by a short, moderately bitter finish. Medium body, smooth and gently effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. How can a Kristallweizen be hazy?! Anyway, the beer itself is quite decent, it's a solid Hopfenweisse.

Bottled (Alko Web). Black colour, mediumsized beigeish brown head. Aroma is smoke, some peated tones, liquorice and mild toffee. Flavour is peat, alcohol, liquorice, some wood and a slight metallic edge to it (which gets stronger as the beer warms up). Nice level of peat, but the metallicness ruins the flavour.
