Description
Cider was a hobby until 2015, now it is very much family life.
We made our first batch of cider as most do - from the apple tree in our garden. Turns out we were born to be cider makers! We started Napton Cidery the very next year, with the sole mission to collect unwanted apples from our village and surrounding orchards to make something wonderful. From pressing a simple 2000 litres in 2015, we now press over 90,000 litres per year, all sourced from small, traditional orchards in Herefordshire to support sustainable British farming.

500ml bottle from Melbicks Garden Centre, Coleshill. Eye - clear deep purple, circular bubbly retention. Nose - musky farmyard apples, fruit sweet blackcurrants Taste - musky dry farm apples with a little tang, blackcurrant fruitiness which adds a nice sweetness. Moderate dry finish but the fresh fruitiness is what stands out here. Superb. Palate - light bodied and fresh but with a nice syrup smoothness, soft carbonation. Overall - a lovely fresh fruity non-artificial flavoured cider. A revelation.

500ml bottle via Scrattings. Shared with Soph. Misty gold appearance, fresh fragrant medium sweet apple fruit on the nose. Taste hooks into a solid medium sweet profile, good balanced apple fruit, hints of vanilla, fleeting caramelised brown sugar glimpses, light to moderate carbonation. Very enjoyable.

Bottle from Melbicks Garden Centre, Coleshill. Deep cloudy gold colour, brief white head, some circular retention. Aroma of farmyard apple, quite musty. Taste is sweet soft apple, caramel, tannin, genuine stuff compared to macro ciders. Moderate body and low carbonation. Very good, I just wish this cider was cheaper, I could fill my fridge with it.

Bottle from Melbicks Garden Centre, Coleshill. Slightly hazy gold, no head. Aroma of moderate sweetness, apples, quite fresh. No carbonation at all which was disappointing. I assumed still cider was labeled as such or called scrumpy but probably being naïve. Taste is quite good, fruity dabinett apple, slightly tart with a dry finish. A little more than medium dry. Lack of carbonation is an issue for me though.
