Description
In 1908 Ernesto Günther and a group of investors founded in the city of Cusco, a branch of the Cervecería Alemana Günther & Tidow. In 1939 Cervecera Alemana Günther & Tido changed its name to Compañía Cervecera del Sur del Perú (Cervesur) and increased its production. In 2000 the company with its plants in Arequipa and Cusco, and with the popular brand Cusqueña, becomes part of the Backus Group (Backus y Johnston), thereby consolidating itself to the point of turning it into a company capable of competing in a globalized environment. Finally, in 2015, the Backus Group becomes part of AB InBev.

Bottle at Matria. Clear golden with medium white head. Malty, bland, corn, pretty bland and tasteless with some sweetness. Light bodied.

Bottle from Drinks of the world, St. Gallen. It is clear golden with a white head. The aroma is sweet, malt and straw. The taste is sweet and light bitter.

Review based on the BJCP2021 guidelines (style 2A). Bottle 30.5 cl - Batch RT0949 (BB: 07/AGO/2024). AROMA: medium-low wet cardboard with a slight sweet grainy background. APPEARANCE: gold color and cristal clear. medium-low white head with average retention. TASTE: initial medium-low stale malt and slight wet cardboard. medium to medium-low bitterness with a semi-dry finish. MOUTHFEEL: low body with medium carbonation. OVERALL: an international pale lager with aging issues.

Review based on the BJCP2021 guidelines (style 2C). Bottle 33 cl - Batch AT17 (BB 24/02/2024) AROMA: medium sweet malty aroma with toasty, bread crust and slight sweet notes. APPEARANCE: very dark amber color to brown with ruby highlights. medium-low beige head with low retention. TASTE: medium roasted malt flavor with medium-high sweet background. unbalanced low bitterness. finishes sweet. MOUTHFEEL: medium-low body with medium-low carbonation. OVERALL: a dark lager excessively sweet.

Panda at home, thanks to Graham Grumbo, 03/06/24. Golden blonde with a decent lasting just off white head. Nose is rather muted, pale malts, grains, herb. Taste comprises cereals, pale malts, grains, light fruit esters, stale bread. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Passable for the style.
