Description
Our mission is pretty much monomaniacal: to brew f*cking good beer. We call it craft-y beer because the owl's got a sharp, uncompromised tongue and a penchant for mischief.

On a typical day we toy with the familiar – unfiltered lager, silky hefeweizen and puckery American IPA, anyone? – but at night we explore the crafty beer extremes from our medieval watering hole Haarlem (That's Haarlem with two 'a's, the Dutch one, and the namesake of New York's single-'a'ed Harlem).

Really truly, our idea of fun is abusing the rauchbeer-Scotch ale-sour beer-oak-aged Imperial Stout-Barley wine clichés. The first rule of owl school: when using hops think in wheelbarrows and not buckets.

So enjoy us, drink us and by all means hop fans abuse us right back – ideally via our social media channels where we announce our very active new creations.

From bottle @ Botermarkt Bierfest Haarlem 2013. Cloudy golden-yellow color. Not much head. Aroma’s: sweet, caramel, fruit, with some yeast retronasal. Flavor is slightly sour with some bretty notes. Light bodied. Shirt finish with grain. Not much depth imo, but I had this right after the very flavorful Raggle Taggle, so might need to re-rate.

Tap at the Haarlem Beer Festival 2013. Poured a deep mahogany with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is rich, alcoholic and a little creamy. The flavour is medium bitter, with some liqourice, coffee, alcohol and some rich zesty citrus fruit on the complex palate. The ABV is high, but the alcohol doesn’t dominate.

Bottle. Strange aroma with notes of paper and citrusy hops. Tastes a bit buttery, otherwise kind of nice notes of orange and grape.

Draught @ Arendsnest. Pours dark red with a white head. Nice aroma. Sweet, candy-like with grapefruit notes. Taste is not as fresh and ends kind of fast. Lots of grapefruit. Still a refreshing beer.

Bottle from Berts Bierhuis. Clear copper colour, off-white head. Nose is light malty, pine hops, bit of onion, fruits. Flavour is hoppy and fruity, bit of pine needles, citrus. Medium to high carbonation. A bit sharp and dry. Would love to have had a slightly more prominent malt profile. Finish is dry and and fairly bitter. Well drinkable.
