Description
Our mission is pretty much monomaniacal: to brew f*cking good beer. We call it craft-y beer because the owl's got a sharp, uncompromised tongue and a penchant for mischief.

On a typical day we toy with the familiar – unfiltered lager, silky hefeweizen and puckery American IPA, anyone? – but at night we explore the crafty beer extremes from our medieval watering hole Haarlem (That's Haarlem with two 'a's, the Dutch one, and the namesake of New York's single-'a'ed Harlem).

Really truly, our idea of fun is abusing the rauchbeer-Scotch ale-sour beer-oak-aged Imperial Stout-Barley wine clichés. The first rule of owl school: when using hops think in wheelbarrows and not buckets.

So enjoy us, drink us and by all means hop fans abuse us right back – ideally via our social media channels where we announce our very active new creations.

Acquired by Swinkels Family Brewers in 2021.

Tap @ Eindhovens Herfstbierfestival ’13. Hazy dark brown to black colour with no head. Smells amazingly nice. Hops, fresh, fruity, grapefruit, roasty. Tastes mostly IPA. Very fruity, hoppy, bitter, fresh. Lovely. Not a perfect black ipa, but a great beer nontheless. Medium body, soft carbo.

Bottle @ home. Clear dark orange color, full sized creamy beige head. Aroma of malts, tropical fruits, mango, pineapple, hops, but also a bit perfume and soapy. Taste malts, different kinds of hop, fruity, nicely bitter. A light but clearly detectable, a bit sharp fruitpeel bitterness underneath the fruit hops and bitter hops gets in the way of the flavor of the beer. Slightly sticky texture, medium body and carbonation. Has potential, but isn’t there yet. Original rating: 7-3-6-3-12=3.1 -- Re-rate August 3, 2015. Bottle @ home shared with Inoven. Hazy orange color, medium sized off-white head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, sweet sticky pine and resin with a decent amount of tropical fruit hops as well. Quite awesome actually. Taste malts, hops, again sticky and resinous hops, again quite fruity and sweet with a light to moderately bitter finish. Medium body, medium carbonation. A lot better than the first time I tried it, nice!

Had this at Derat Cafe, Utrecht, Netherlands, Saturday 28th September 2013 Pours dark amber with a medium white head. Much like the previous offering from this brewery this also was showing a little bit of butteryness on the nose. This was certainly hoppy but a bit sweet, its ok but not as good as the ’people watching’ out of the window. A5 A4 T6 P3 Ov13 3.1

(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 25 July 2013) Reddish amber colour with frothy, off-white head, leaving traces of lacing. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, citrus, blood orange, grapefruit and resin. Malty, fruity taste with notes of blood orange, grapefruit, caramel and a dry finish with a fresh citric bitterness. Medium body, quite dry. Tasty with a fresh hop character. Nice one.
