Description
Sunbeam Ales is a Leeds based microbrewery run by Nigel Poustie. It was established in 2012 and has developed a reputation for multi award-winning cask ales. The brewery is only 2BBL so limited amounts of the sort after cask ales are distributed around Yorkshire.

Nigel mostly brews once a week, occasionally twice, rotating through a range of beers. Periodically he will brew a seasonal special, often incorporating foraged ingredients. The brewery doesn’t hold much stock, so it is a good idea to place pre-orders.

Leeds Beer Festival 2016. Should be tried with ’The Storm’ from Sunbeam given this is a duel brewed beer in the ’parti-gyle’ style. This one is very impressive with its sweet toffee flavours and has an hazed dirty amber appearance. It certainly feels heavier than its strength.

Leeds Beer Festival 2016. Cloudy brown coloured ale. Strong and sweet tasting, which is its dominant feature. There’s a few dark malts to be found in here. This was tried after its little brother beer ’Calm Before’.

Cask @ The Grove, Huddersfield. Dark reddy-brown with hardly any head. Has sweet dark malts in its taste, with a potent aroma in this respect in its nose. There’s strong chocolate flavours in here too.

Cask from handpump at Fighting Cock, kindly shared by ManVsBeer. Low white head, spotty lacing, bright golden body. Dusty hops on the nose. Mid-sweet fruity taste, hints of oily hops. Short-lived ending. Thin to medium bodied. Okay, rather anonymous though (Bradford 8.07.2015).

Cask, half pint at The Old Bar, Leeds University. Lacing to the upper level of the glass. Hazy golden body. The aroma is dominated by lavender. Perfumed taste of lavender with honey sweetness beneath. Carries some interests and is possible to drink, not my kind of beer though (05.07.2015).
