We are committed to producing the highest quality Cyders and Perries through natural methods, without the aid of artificial assistance, additives or chemicals. All fruit is hand-picked, hand-washed, milled in an old-fashioned scratter and pressed on an old stone slab, which has run with the juice of apples and pears for over a century, and then allowed to ferment naturally in oak barrels.

Cask@GBBF2010. Golden colour, no head. Aroma is sour apples, some slight notes of rotten apples along with mild vanilla and wooden notes. Flavour is quite similar, but a bit thin. Also has some quite alcoholic notes in the finish.

750ml bottle from Trinity News, Worcester. Copper coloured with no head. Dry aroma with some wood and sherry notes. Tart flavour in the main, with a hint of honey in the background, and not much fruit. Finish was vinous and was also suggestive of sherry. Good.

Plastic cask at GBBF 08. Very pale clear gold. Bit of green to the colour. I’m sorry but that tastes like my dad’s homemade cider. Really quite poor. Some dryness, but just not a good perry.

Polycask at Merton Summer Beer Festival July 18th Poured mid gold, good clarity and with a nice but not overpowering whisky aroma. Loz and I had a taste of this at Kevin Minchews Cidery and I must say that I’m glad that it was handed to us in a thimble sized tasting vessel as this really tasted quite pokey. Good appley aroma but with a definate whisky whiff in there. Taste was quite dry and fruity with a nice warming trickle and sensation coming from the whisky, it wasn’t overdone in the whisky cask and was really quite lovely its just this one was very clear that you had to treat it with great respect, the apples were forever present but much like the Olivers Dabinett I think the Dabinett isn’t my favourite singel varietal, the whisky cask ageing improved this and added to what would have been just an ok cider.

Polycask at Merton Summer Beer Festival July 19th This is one of those drinks that has to live up to its famous name following the instant popularity, courtsey of Wallace and Grommit. We had a good chat with Kevin Minchew the owner/producer of this cidery and were shown around his wonderfully chaotic but very historic machinery, Kevin knew his stuff and this Perry shows that quite magnificently. I also couldn’t help but think that the strange aroma had more than a passing similarity to the cheese (or just chess in general) or was that just the name playing in my mind? I don’t think so it was a touch cheesy. Poured light gold and quite interesting for a Perry in that i didn’t get the big juicy overipe pears that I often get, this was a bit more complex quite dry at times but the sweetness was there it just that it was well reined in, a hint of rhubarb played across my tongue once or twice and all in all a most enjoyable Perry. BTW I note that Kevin informed us that this Perry is actually the excat same Perry as the Malvern Hills version he does, Kevin said that he is ofetn requested to change the name depending on what side of the Malverns he sells it. It must be a Herefordshire and Worcestershire thing.

Barrel at GBBF 2007. A light yellow perry with no head. The aroma is slightly acidic with a slight pear note. The flavor is a mixture of sweet and acidic with medium strong notes of pear, leading to a dry finish.

Bag in a box at Reading BF 2007. This got a highly commended in the CAMRA cider and perry championships decided during the festival. Very very pale silver gold. It’s a decent soft perry. Some pear juice. Not very dry, but not sweet either.

GBBF 2006. A light yellow perry with a rim of white head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of pears. The flavor is dry to start off with combined with light notes of wood, then comes some sweetness with strong notes of pears, and towards the end the sweetness resides and the dryness comes back.
