A pioneer of the modern craft beer movement, famous for its innovation and quality, Galway Hooker has developed a reputation as one of Ireland’s leading breweries.
Established in 2006, Galway Hooker produced the original Irish Pale Ale - now the most popular style of craft beer in the country. We also produce a diverse range of core and seasonal beers both on draught and in bottle. We consider beer to be like any other food: the fresher and less processed the better. Our beers are therefore devoid of any preservatives and are brewed using only malt, hops yeast and water.
Galway Hooker is Ireland’s third oldest independent brewery and the oldest existing brewery in Connacht. In 2014 the business expanded into a new state of the art facility in Oranmore, making it one of Ireland’s largest and best equipped craft breweries.

Bottle: Poured a golden/amber color ale with a white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of cereal notes with some grassy hops notes. Taste is also a mix of grassy hops notes, clean cereal notes with some a nice semi-dry finish. Body is about average with good carbonation. Nothing earth shattering but well brewed and very enjoyable.

A lightly hazed golden ipa with a very thin white head. In aroma, biscuit malt with grassy hops, light mineral notes, treacle, pleasant. In mouth, biscuit malt with resinous herbaceous hops, light mineral notes, OK.

Cloudy bright yellow gold with a bubbly white head and a soft citrus aroma, kind of grapefruit and tangerine. Fizzy and zesty, there’s some chewy light malt ahead of hop bitterness, grapefruit and maybe a hint of pine, finishes dry and bitter.

On tap at Black Bush, Chester (not listed in Brewver yet). Pours golden yellow with a small scummy almost white head, good lacing and fairly high carbonation. The aroma has malts, pine, quite a bit of spice and just a hint of honey. In the mouth it is quite sharp but with some underlying sweetness. Flavour is malts, corn, hints of spice and resin. Sweetness gradually increases, and zesty hints of berry fruits can be detected leading to a quite dry finish. This is decent.
