Description
Telegraph Brewing Co. was Santa Barbara’s first craft brewery. Brian Thompson founded the Belgian-inspired brewery in 2006.

Early American brewers adapted traditional European brewing techniques to the unique ingredients, climates, and tastes of the New World. At Telegraph Brewing Co., our beers are handcrafted in that same manner at our brewery in Santa Barbara, California. Making use of as many locally grown ingredients as we can, Telegraph's ales embody our philosophy that a local brewery should reflect the traditions of its region. Our goal is to produce uniquely American beer styles that are imbued with a spirit of invention and creativity, but always with a nod toward history.

In 2017 Utah-based Epic Brewing purchased Telegraph.

Hey the only problem with this beer and bottle is that the cork shot off with violence and broke a light fixture. At least the beer isn’t infected. So there’s that. Formerly corked and caged 750mL bottle pours clear copper with gold edges and tan head. The aroma has spicy hops, mild floral hop note and a decent enough pulse of pine hops too. Behind the hops is a modest level of malt sugary sweetness. The taste is similar with spicy hops, mango, passion fruit too and some floral hops all supported by sweeter notes of sugary malts and sweet apricot juice. Tastes pretty good.

bottle thanks to Playitbybeer for bringing this! Pours light yellow with a medium white head. Aroma is sour lemon, juice and rind with some pale grains. Flavor is grainy with an almost gritty feel and a big sour finish that is more barnyard and earthy than lactic and acidic.

Bottle (batch 77) thanks to hopheadjim. Pours with a murky amber hue and a lasting small tan head. Aromas of plum skins, lacto, tannins, bready malt, vinous, light brett, estery and a hint of acetobacter. Flavors are very malty and rich, dubbel like at first with a vinous edge, raisins, lacto and a nice (albeit mild) brett character. Pretty good complexity and balance struck between malt and funk. Sadly, the mouthfeel detracts from the overall experience. Extremely overcarbonated (to the point were it inhibits ones ability to taste the beer. Huge CO2. Finishes dry and acidic. Tasty.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of wavers1. Pours a clear pale yellow with a lively white head leaving a little lacework. Dry tartness in the nose - and coriander?? Light body, dry indeed, a little fruity but again these strange perfumy coriander notes - oh I see, it’s gonna be the lemon verbana, whatever that is. Ends dry but not overly tart. Refreshing, but not really to style. 290311
