Early American brewers adapted traditional European brewing techniques to the unique ingredients, climates, and tastes of the New World. At Telegraph Brewing Co., our beers are handcrafted in that same manner at our brewery in Santa Barbara, California. Making use of as many locally grown ingredients as we can, Telegraph's ales embody our philosophy that a local brewery should reflect the traditions of its region. Our goal is to produce uniquely American beer styles that are imbued with a spirit of invention and creativity, but always with a nod toward history.
In 2017 Utah-based Epic Brewing purchased Telegraph.

Hazy golden coloured body with a very white head and a nice mellow orange glow. Aroma of coriander seed, curacao, hay and a bit of nice sugars. Medium-bodied; Assertive wheat taste with a little corn and curacao sweetness, a little grass and a very nice cool finish. Aftertaste shows a little corn, a lot of coriander seed and a bit of fresh wheat flavour. Overall, a nice wit showing a good cool, refreshing flavour. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchaed earlier in the day from BevMo in Danville, California sampled on 19-March-2011 in Danville, California.

Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours med gold with a slight white head. Very mild sourish aroma. Mediumish body. Flavor is lightly sour and a bit wheaty. Finishes a hint salty. Qualifies as quite light and refreshing.

Bottle (batch 68). Pours with a hazy golden body with a small head that quickly fades. Aroma is lactic with plum skins, pitted fruits, stone fruit (peaches and nectarines mainly), cherry, pulots, white wine and passion fruit. Floral, perfumy with notes of honey. Flavor is lightly tart and lightly grainy with some acidity and light fruit. Lingering tropical fruit/passion fruit notes. I wish the acidity is a bit sharper (this seems like a fairly young sour). A bit thing with soft carbonation. Very easy to drink. I think I’d rather have this on a summer day than their Reserve Wheat. Dry and quenching.

City Beer Store, Telegraph Wild Ale Tasting (1/20/11). Another interesting effort from Telegraph. This is probably the best small beer that I’ve tried, but even this one still had that sorta watery feel and mild, washed out caramel flavor. That said, this beer also has some subtle notes that evince a degree of complexity not seen in most small beers. The beer has a great gentle fruitiness with notes of grapes, peaches and apples. Light caramel. Light funk. Very light tartness but an underlying sour flavor, separate from the pucker of a normal sour. This would be a very enjoyable session beer, and I hope that it manages to develop even further complexity with a brief stint in the cellar.

City Beer Store, Telegraph Wild Ale Tasting (1/20/11). Refreshing sour with a very good fruity tartness. This beer definitely had more tartness than the blonde and seemed better tied together, but then I also just prefer a little more sour. The fruitiness is raspberries, pears, apples and blackberries. There’s also some caramel and funk. I would have preferred for the flavors to be dialed up even more, but it was still a very enjoyable beer and I would love to be able to buy a bottle. Mouthfeel was light with a bit tart bite in the finish. Good stuff.

City Beer Store, Telegraph Wild Ale Tasting (1/20/11). Interesting beer. Light and fruity with a mild tartness and a touch of brett funk. Apricots, pears, caramel. Light mouthfeel. Rather refreshing. Not quite enough going on, though. I wonder if this beer would have increased in complexity with a bit more time.

Bottle. Great spice and chocolate notes. The chili is mild but provides a touch of heat. The taste has a some good sweetness but finishes without any stickiness. It’s about half stout and half winter warmer. Lots of chocolate malt. Some caramel. Mild roast. Some dark fruity notes. The spice is really the star and lends a mix of cinnamon and chili. Mouthfeel eventually gets creamy and smooth, but it’s initially over-carbonated. Very pleasant beer and has some very good holiday spicing.

Bottled. A hazy golden beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of straw and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of straw, malt, and alcohol, with an edge of acidity, that carries thru to a tart finish.

Bottle. I’m a fan of Telegraph, and this is almost an excellent oatmeal stout. Unfortunately, the carbonation is oddly strong and effervescent. The beer settles well and eventually achieves an appropriately creamy mouthfeel, but Telegraph needs to tone things down. That said, the beer has some very good flavors bouncing around. The aroma is a bit weak, though there are some nice roast and chocolate tones. On the other hand, the taste is all dark chocolate candy bar. The roast and chocolate notes combine smoothly and create a luxurious stout flavor. Sweet with a dry, roasty finish. Mild hops. Very drinkable once the carbonation drops.
