Description
Telegraph Brewing Co. was Santa Barbara’s first craft brewery. Brian Thompson founded the Belgian-inspired brewery in 2006.

Early American brewers adapted traditional European brewing techniques to the unique ingredients, climates, and tastes of the New World. At Telegraph Brewing Co., our beers are handcrafted in that same manner at our brewery in Santa Barbara, California. Making use of as many locally grown ingredients as we can, Telegraph's ales embody our philosophy that a local brewery should reflect the traditions of its region. Our goal is to produce uniquely American beer styles that are imbued with a spirit of invention and creativity, but always with a nod toward history.

In 2017 Utah-based Epic Brewing purchased Telegraph.

At any rate, it’s a hazy light golden-amber beer with a pretty good head. The aroma was a bit too light but good. Oranges and mild Belgian yeast were were all mixed up. As a Belgian IPA, it certainly needs more hops. As a generic strong ale, it’s still a bit underwhelming in flavor. It was interesting and complexity lurked in there, but even after warming it up a bit, the flavor wasn’t big enough. Subtle spice and dark fruit mix with the orange hops in the nose for a fairly tasty beer. The alcohol is well-hidden. At any rate, it’s a good Belgian-influenced ale that just needs some small tweaks to really shine.

750 c&c from Monument in Concord, CA. Pours hazy gold with a coarsely foamy white head that bubbles away rapidly. Aroma is very spicey and has an orange zest touch. Medium body with fizzy carbonation. Flavor is light malt with coriander and orange zest. Not a very white wit! Quite nice ale.

750ml bottle pours a transparent light caramel brown with a creamy, slightly off white head. Aroma is super mild, lightly sweet, light candy, a little cookie dough. Flavor is sweet, chocolate chip cookies, caramel. Finish is medium bodied and very smooth.

C&C 750 from South Bay Drug. Pours hazy, rather pale blood orange with a foamy beige head. Body is thick and carbonation is creamy/foamy. Flavor is lots of malt, kind of rough like rye, something like apricot, and enough hop to pretty much balance out what must be a lot of sugar. There’s a whole lot of flavor here. Wow. Very impressive.

75 cl corked bottle from Whole Foods. Pours beautiful red-brown with off-white head (that doesn’t last too long). Aroma boasts spices (ginger, cinnamon, anise, coriander), some chocolaty sweetness and some acidity. Flavor is slightly sweet and acidic (possibly a minor infection). Spiciness in the finish. Not bad, but not great either.
