500ml bottle. Pours black in colour with a foamy off-white head leaving some lacing. Nose of roasted malt, citrus hoppy, coffee & chocolate. Roast malt flavour, with smokey, chocolate, coffe, woody notes and some tangy citrus bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry roast bitter finish. Quite drinkable.

Mersea Island Beer Festival. Cask. Almost opaque dark brown beer, few pale tan bubbles for a head. Palate is light and crisp. Nice condition. Tangy dark malts and some roasty bitterness. Mild dark fruits. Crisp finish. Roasty linger. Standard stuff but clean.

Bottle shared at BBNo - thanks to Tommy. Pours clear brown with a bug, frothy tan head. The nose has lots of toasty leaves, grainy bread, toffee, old berries. Medium sweet flavorbwith leathery berries, burnt grains, toast brown bread, berries, old leather. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Finishes with some further leaves and earth, wood, leather. Interesting stuff. Not bad.

[ As Round Tower Longshots ].Clear medium red brown color with a small to average, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, dark malt, toasted, light roasted, caramel notes. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a long duration, roasted, hop bitter. Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival in KEGS. Cask. Almost clear dark amber beer, a few pale tan bubbles for a head. Palate is light and semi dry. Malts are smooth with a little bitterish dark toffee. Bitterish dried fruits. Tangy marmalade. Some floral bitterness before a light dry finish. Flavoursome.

6th Feb 2015: Bottle exchange in De Bierboom, Brugge. No idea who brought this. Black pour, beige topping. Roasted malty nose with coffee and chocolate notes leading the way, a floral hint always in the background.The same could be said for the flavours: malty goodness with coffee and chocolate to the fore while behind lurks the floral hop content beavering away to stop the malts taking over completely. Nice, glad I had this early in the evening because it might have got eaten up if the big alcohol hitters had been in and around it.

Bottle from the Coop in Chelmsford, Essex. Pours just about black, with a tan colour head. Aroma of chocolate, with a touch of bitter roasting. Body medium, texture a little on the thin side but ok for a beer of 4.1%. Decent for a stout of this kind of abv.

50 cl bottle. Pours pitch black with a small off white to tan head. Aroma is dry roasted and slight chocolate malty. Bitter, roasted and chocolate. Smooth roasted and lingering chocolate malty.
