Cask at the Earl of Essex - London. Pours clear gold with a creamy, white head. The nose holds toasty leaves, dry bread and old citrus. Light sweet flavor with bitter leaves, toasted grains, grass, a bit of orange rind and leathery berries. Light bodied with fine carbonation; decent condition. Finishes with more bitter, husky grains, dry bread, aged berries and rindy, grassy bitterness. Pretty good bitter.

Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival, KEGS. Cask. Hazy gold beer. Small white head. Light palate, semi dry and crispy. Good condition! Light dry pale malt. Hops are grapefruit and orange marmalade. Little floralness. Touch of eggy yeast distract, but not seriously so. Light crisp and dry finish.

Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival, KEGS. Cask. Almost opaque dark brown beer. Small bubbly tan head. Palate is light and dry and has a mild crispness. Smooth dark malt, a light touch. Mild roast and dark chocolate. Light candy sweet fruits and a little Parma Violets. Finishes light and dry with a little bitter hop coming in.

Bottle share at kernel. Thanks to Thomas. Dark carmel coloured pour with a light tan head. Aroma is caramel roast and some petroleum, hops. Flavor is choc, green leaf hop. Assertive grassy bitterness. Some veg broth.

5.7% 500ml bottle at the Ale House, Chelmsford. Pours a very dark brown colour with a medium size light brown head. Aroma of roasted malts and hops, hint of coffee. Slightly dry finish. Medium bodied and good level of carbonation. A nice Black IPA.

Nose is light roast, touch of hoppage, earthy cocoa, hint of grapefruit. Taste comprises light roast, fruit tang, liqourice, dark chocolate, hint of pine. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry earthy finale. Decent enough CDA-lite.

Bottle shared at The Kernel, London - huge thanks to Mad Man Marshall for this Chelmsford beast. Pours black-brown with a foamy, tan head. Nose of burnt pine, wood and light grass. Light to medium sweet flavor with good roast, burnt wood, earth. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Dry, earthy bitter finish with more burnt pine, faint cocoa, roast. Good.
