8 Wired Brewing is inspired by the legendary Kiwi can-do mentality and fellow craft brewers who have dared to challenge the masses and show us all that beer is no longer “just beer”! Known for producing “New world interpretations of old world styles” 8 Wired have multiple shades of very hoppy IPAs, Saisons, Porters and Stouts in their permanent line up and have the biggest barrel aged and sour program in the southern hemisphere.

After 5 years of contract brewing, eventually at 4 different breweries across New Zealand we now finally have our very own brewery (In Warkworth, North of Auckland) where we brew and package everything.

Smell of coffee, roasted malt. Black colour, very dark brown head. Aroma of coffee, ashy malt. Bitter. Surprisingly light body. Medium carbon. Ashy dry palate.

As advertised, lots of passionfruit, plus a little guava and citrus. A nice malt backbone as well. Not necessarily my kind of beer, but it's well made.

From a 440ml can on 12/7/2021. Pours an ultra clear light golden with a medium head. Has a strong pine resin aroma, with some grassy and herbal notes. Has a big biscuit malt sweetness and some tangerine, which is met by a furnish pine-resin bitterness, with a slightly odd dash of red onion. The mouthfeel is a touch oily, the carbonation moderate to average. Quite interesting but ultimately a bit muddled.

(Keg, 2019 vintage, at Craft Beer Garden 2021) The beer poured golden and hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness, grapefruit, stomach acids and vinegar. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, canned apricots, floralness, sourness, tartness, wood, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was fruity, tart and bitter. A delicious tart brew with complex flavours.

Can, 0.330l. Aroma of citrus, passion fruit, pineapple, pine and biscuit. Pours cloudy golden color with thin soapy white head and sparkling appearance. Taste starts refreshing citrusy, tropical fruity, peachy and herbal, following is bready and faint medicinal, while finish is average bitter. Medium body, slick texture and average carbonation in palate. Fruity punch in the face…

44 cl can @ Nurmo. Batch #449, BBE 25.08.2024 Aroma has ash, pot coffee and butter. Flavour has ash, salty licorice and coffee tones. Way too ashy and salty for my taste.

440ml can from Vinmonopolet Nettbutikk. Shared by Finn. Rocky white head leaving lacing rings behind, cloudy orange body. Fresh smell of juicy fruits, orange to the fore. Citrus flavours, orange and grapefruit, kveik yeast beneath. Mid-dry hop fruity ending. Smooth. Like it. (Bergstua, Malangen 16.06.2021).
